I am a total Yak newby.  I bought a SOT Yak last year, but have yet to get it out on local Salt.  I have been paddling on Lk WA and in E. Washington.  I live in Seattle and I am looking for someone that I could "tag-along" with for my first time out on the Salt.  I am pretty well set for gear (I think?) and have been fishing local waters for about 30 years.  I was a FF guide and outfitter on the Yakima & other local rivers for many years.

If someone would be willing to help me out....I could reciprocate.  I have a house on the Methow River and could host a trip there.

Welcome Harry  :D

You've come to the right place. There are many Seattle area yakkers that will get you salty in a hurry. There's also a salt get together in Pacific City, OR in 2 weekends.

Harry,

Welcome, I was 54 last week! It's nice to know that other middle age folks are as passionate about this wonderful way of fishing as I am!

Welcome to the party, Harry.

I'll be over on the wetside the 19th-21st. No definitive plans beyond getting out fishing, probably for silvers in the N Sound.

No need to host me in the Methow... I already live here. BTW, the river is fishing very well.

Greetings, Harry, I'm a newbie here, too. I'm another "old dog" (just turned 58 Tuesday) out here on the coast just S of Westport, and fish the local estuaries and rivers for cutthroat and salmon. I have yet to head out in my Native 12 along the South Jetty at the Grays Harbor entrance for lings and rockfish, but plan to do so when the conditions are light (small swell and light-to-mod S to SW winds, as the fish are on the N side of the jetty here).

I trolled the Willapa River again for Kings on Monday morning, but they weren't biting. Some fish were rolling, though, so I know some are there. Cast and stripped a Reversed Spider to see if I could raise a searun cutt, but no takers. Now its too sunny and bright with E/NE to N winds and high pressure, with the high tide change in the middle of the day....not so good.

The searun cutthroat fishing continues to be good (if you are in the right place at the right time), except that I like to fish the outgoing tides, and they are in the afternoon now...also suffering from "too bright and sunny w/bluebird skies" syndrome. Mid-day and afternoon fishing can be OK if its raining lightly, cloudy or foggy. Tides here should improve for morning fishing toward the end of next week. Then I'll be after the Kings again, as well as Coho and the searun cutts.
Now I'm in work mode (self deployed), although I'm thinking of heading to a lake tomorrow morning to see if I can fool up some trout with flies, and maybe up to the rainshadow to visit my folks in Sequim early next week.
I'm looking for fishing buddies who like to paddle, and I look forward to attending some gatherings as well. I really want to fish the S Sound (area 13) more.
I plan to get a more ocean-worthy SOT yak next year.

Let me know if you are headed out this way and want to paddle in to the "head of tidewater" for some searun cutts. I fly fish for them. This has been a good year for them so far. They will all disappear upstream when the October rains hit, and then I'll have to hike in for them. There should be some Coho showing up within a week or so here as well. We need some more rain! Not too much, just enough!

Any of you other members who want to check out the Twin Harbors version of "The Cure" let me know!

I want to thank you all for the warm welcome to the group.  I cant wait to get out there......

Pisco, we have probably met in the Valley before.......Ive been going up there since the early 80s.

I am headed over to fish the river this afternoon for a few days, maybe I will see you there.  Have you hooked any Steelies down low yet?

Harry, we may have met- I've been here since '84.

I've had a couple steel hookups, in the middle section (break-offs ::)) and the one in the photo was up near Winthrop, last week. I've been doing best at twilight. I haven't been doing a lot of fishing down low, but I may change that in the near future. Pressure has been heavy on the upper river.

I'll be out this Saturday.

Z- You do remember the Nike slogan, don't you? The weather is supposed to be in the 80-90 degree range for the next week, or more. Don't you and your wife want to do some more exploring of the NW? ::)
