Hello,

I recently learned about this forum at the summer splash demo day in Portland. My wife and I are interested in getting a couple of kayaks and spending time exploring local lakes and rivers with our young son and also fish and camp. I am a long time fisherman and have a boat, but I am looking forward to new experiences fishing from a kayak. Thanks to the staff at the demo day for answering all of our questions and also to those here who have shared on this website. It has been a big help for us.

So what are you leaning towards buying? And welcome! Summer Splash is a pretty cool event.

Welcome. I know a guy here that also has a boat, but haven't touched it since he got a kayak. Most kayaks will fit a young kid in the back tank well. I peddled around the lake with my nephew or friends kid in my kayak. They fished while I slowly trolled.

Thanks. We have our eye on the Hobie outback, but we also like the capability of reverse in the Native Watercraft propel. We want to demo both and compare pros and cons. I haven't found out yet where we can demo a propel in the area, if there is a place that sells them locally.

The nearest place is Gig Harbor. Go to Tacoma and hang a left. The carry both Native and Hobie.

Dunno anything more about them beyond what's on their website.

Just a thought...  You said you would use the kayak in rivers and lakes.  If they're small rivers, a drive unit might not be the best idea.  If they're larger rivers, nevermind.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.
