Hi fellas. It's been awhile. Sold my beloved Koffler so I'm a dedicated tuppaware boat guy now. I had the privilege of taking a buddy on his first saltwater kayak adventure.

It started out a little hairy... The conditions were more severe then our Intel led us to believe. We hugged the inside jetty and pretty much got one cast in before having to paddle away from the rocks.

My buddy caught his first and biggest fish of the day early on. I put it on my Big Game clip and immediately lost the fish and the clip. :(

The next 90 minutes... Nothing. We were working pretty hard and we're ready to call it a day when all the sudden... WHAM! My $2 garage sale pole was buried. The next moment my buddy was hooting and holoring, bait fish flopping around everywhere...

Let's just say I have a new fishing buddy. >:D  And before you guys crucify me I gave him my biggest fish of the day to try to make up for losing his. Lol.

excellent, I love catching Black Rocks on medium action spinning rigs...

...and for anyone that hasn't tried them- the carcasses make fantastic crab bait...

Congratulations! Especially catching them on light and cheap gear like that makes it extra special.

In case you missed rogerdodger's subtle hint... if you would kindly notice he called them Black Rockfish... Not Sea Bass, although a lot of people call them that. (sorry. Just a pet peeve and couldn't help myself. :confused3:).

wetwhopper... Great screen name by the way!

They do make good crab bait.  Though I have a Malaysian friend that I can give them to for a fantastic fish head curry.

Black rocks. Roger! I keep carcasses also. Great crab bait and great for the garden too. :)

My buddies yak is pretty long and heavy and mine is too slow (WS Tarpon 15? and a Malibu Mini X). I'll be saving funds and doing odd jobs to save up for a Trident 13'.

Fish head soup... I'll have to try it sometime.

The name wet whopper came from boot camp. My DI asked me what nationality I was. I replied, sir, half Italian and half Mexican, sir! His reply was, " so you are a blankety... Blank, blank, wet whopper huh?" Lol. Not very PC. Sometimes I wonder if I should change it???

The best handles always have a good story behind them!  I like it.  If you wouldn't have explained it I would of thought it had to do with catching a big fish that was still wet...  😀

 Hi wetwhopper,
You can save yourself a lot of dragging your boat by launching behind the sewer plant in O.S. There is a dirt road that takes you right to the water's edge. 4 wheel drive isn't needed but it helps. Used to fish the jetty a lot in the 80's and 90's. Great place to fish. Have you tried going on the outside yet ? Better fishing with an occasional salmon too. Give it a try if you're down there at high tide.

Mark, I'll be looking for your shortcut. Yes, I fish the outside too... especially when I bring my crab pots along. I finally got a good cart and would like to fish Westport and LaPush this summer also. I'm debating if my Malibu Mini x is up to it. It's plenty stable but slow.

Nothing more to tell....... go to the sewer plant, go around the left side and follow the dirt road out to the water.
Go out and find it. A lot easier put in than by Damon Point. Go explore and expand your horizons.

    Thanks alpalmer,

I try not to spoon feed folks too much. But that is exactly the place.
I had / got to find most fishing holes the hard way------- hunt 'em down by exploring. I guess with the internet-- that doesn't happen so much anymore.  That is too bad , in my opinion , had some seriously cool adventures that way. But it must be the new way.
