I have been talking to quite a few people in the Tillamook area about a HOW sub-chapter here, and would like to see if anyone else would like to help get it off the ground. The port manager as well as at least one of the guys working under him are very interested and both vets. I know not a lot of guys live in this area but you guys fish this area with me. Let's get the party started there are so many cool places around here to fish as well as crab and clam.

This pleases me. The Portland Chapter is willing to help.

I am up for volunteering when ever I can and I can report the volunteer hours to my company and they will cut a check at the end of the year to the organization.  The money actually goes to the national chapter from what Anthony told me but I am hoping that the money trickles down...

This is 100% true. All donations to HOW go directly to HOW National unless earmarked for a specific local chapter.

If you want to help your local Veteran population then you must include the chapter name on the memo section of the check or in the comments section of online donations.

To get this correct, what is the exact name we would use to make sure our money gets to the Portland branch?

Is it safe to just say "The Portland HOW Chapter", or is there a number code that identifies the Portland HOW Chapter more specifically?

Make sure to legibly and clearly write Portland Oregon Chapter in the memo line. Also doesn't hurt to give Anthony a pm heads up to be sure he's looking for it in the account ;)

So far I have Hdwipmonkey working on getting the paperwork in for a coast satellite chapter and he is going to take the reigns as chapter coordinator, Cosmo and Lil' Cos are going to tackle chapter treasurer.
The Vetrans Of Foreign Wars is hosting a meeting at Bay City hall and we have an open invite to get some coastal vets fired up and interested. Anyone interested in volunteering and or attending the meeting let me know. Let's get this up and running and help out a great group of guys that gave so much so we can enjoy our freedom.

We got the paperwork "ball" rolling with Corporate HQ at HOW and we are in need of two volunteer positions filled, one is chapter coordinator along side Hdwipmonkey and the other is chapter secretary. I'm not quite sure what the positions require of the volunteer, if Anthony, Noah, or Wobbler could please enlighten us. I'm going to be tackling veterans and volunteers coordination as well as help plan the events location and logistics. I would also like to get someone that is really good with the "mybook, facespace" interweb workings to volunteer as our PR coordinator.
I know a lot of you guys have jobs, families, fishing agendas but if we can get multiple people to volunteer for position then i believe life can happen as well as the events to get our Vetrans and first responders out for some aquatic therapy.

Are you talking North Coast Chapter or the entire coast?  I'd be happy to help out with PR but the Tillamook area is as far from those of us down here as is Portland, and I'm not likely to attend Chapter meetings.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

We're thinking the north coast area.

I think you should be able to handle the social media portion remotely from home.  I don't know that you'd have to attend meetings and if you do we could always do it by Skype.

I just spoke with the National Operations Director and among many topics we discussed was the fact that starting a chapter is quite a bit easier now than when we started. There's a process and training, and just a lot more information available.  And they don't throw it at you all at once. There was a time when it could get a little overwhelming, but I think they have launching chapters down pretty good now.

I was told our official number of chapters is 68 now! I think there were about 32 when we started organizing 5 years ago.

Please make some events for this chapter that those of us that work Saturdays can volunteer for.

Shannon and I were already discussing that.  With my days off Wednesday-Friday and every other Saturday we want to have some events on weekdays when possible.
