I moved to the Portland area a little over a year ago.  Where I used to fish, I would catch with comforting regularity.  Everything from different saltwater bass to halibut, baracuda and a nurse shark that I really didn't want in my yak with me. Life was good.  Now days, I live near the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas rivers.  I haven't caught a fish of any type since my arrival.  At this point, I wonder if I could find a fish if it were stuffed up my ass, sideways and on fire.  I've bought new gear, in the way of spinners and some other miscelaneous stuff but no luck.  I see fish jumping and hear them laughing, but I can't get one to take me seriously.

Will, I'm not offering my hand to remove anything on fire ,no matter the location. However if you sit tight for a little while someone with some credibility as to fishing your area will assuradely answer some of your query if not all.

Welcome Will!

Where have you been fishing and what for?  I never did make it down that way this year even though I had grand plans.   >:(  But I will ... sometime ...

My wifes family is in NE Portland, and we make it down there 2 or 3 times a year. I do some fishing in the area, including the Gorge area and the coast. I'm mostly bank fishing down there, as there are 5 of us in the family and not enough room to haul a lot of gear.

Took me a couple of years to figure out salmon and steelhead out, after moving here from the Mid-west. It's a big change from what you were doing, and to make it more complicated, fish hang out in diferent areas, depending on season and conditions.

You might find the saltwater scene more familiar. There'll be halibut (tho' bigger), black sea bass, lings, etc. This is not the best season, for that though, with the winter storms starting up.

When I have a good idea when I'll next be in the area, I'll post and see if we can get out.

Good evening Gentlemen,

Thanks for the welcome.  I will be taking all your advice to boat.  If anyone finds themselves in the area, drop me a line and I will try to make arrangements to get together and test lines and drags.

Thanks again.

Howdy Will

I may be in the Portland area over Xmas; still interested in a hook-up?
