I believe box is right. Pneumatocyst on top and a hold fast on the bottom. On a side note what do you think of your thresher? I'm looking to replace my trident next month and the thresher is top of my list.

Pelagic Paddler used to slice the bull kelp bulbs into rings and pickle them.  Mmmm Mmmm!

Yakbass - thank you! I haven't fished in it too much yet, still learning) First opinions - it feels solid and safe, very well made. The best deсk organization imho - a lot! of storage space, center storage console is awesome, electronics pod, comfortable foot braces, paddle holder, slide traxes, pockets, bungees, etc.- all that nice stuff is very convenient. Seat is comfortable and stays dry, but is not perfect for me, I guess it is designed for bigger guys, I am 5'10" 175lbs and I feel a lot of play around my ass. A little bit heavy and not that stable compared to 32-36 inch boats. Also not that fast I expected but it gains speed fast, pretty difficult to hold a course without a rudder, also not that easy to paddle as smaller boats. I think it is great kayak for inshore and large lakes. Definitely not for small waters. Probably for offshore, but I haven't tried yet. I think about installing flush rod holders behind the seat. And a rudder definitely would help, but it is hell expensive, so I am still thinking...

I have 4 inches and 75 lbs on you. I just picked up my thresher and just took it out on a lake to get acclimated to it. I definitely fit my fat butt in the seat well. Mine came with rudder and after I deployed it I definitely noticed a huge difference in being able to control it.

Im going to take it out on some of the local lakes a few more times and just try some trout fishing off of it before I get it out on the sound but so far I'm really happy with it. I also need to sort out some proper cold water gear before heading into salt water as well.

Thanks for the replies. Eugene is the same weight as me but a hair shorter I thought the same thing when I did a demo on the 140. Thigh straps would be needed for surf or river the seat has no lateral support. It felt great to paddle and stable. I'm coming from a first Gen prowler(angler) and now a 2011 trident 15.

You can eat that.

I pick the fresh new growth from the "leaves", dry it, grind it, great salt and mineral supplement.
I use it kinda like "spike".

According to my old botany prof, all the brown algaes are edible although some are better than others. None poisonous as I recall.

Pneumatocyst is not a species of seaweed, it is a morphological structure present in a number of species of seaweed--the airfilled bulb. The bulbs PP would pickle were likely from Macrocystis pyrifera. The holdfast in the OP was also likely from the same species.

Actually Ron (Pelagic Paddler) would pickle the pneumatocyst of the bull kelp (Nereocystis luetkeana).  I know, I've eaten it.  If you do a search on "kelp pickle".. all of the recipes are for bull kelp.
