Best news ever! Now I won't have Mojo pedaling next to me, backwards, with that silly grin on his face!  I like it but it is more stuff that can break. I attached a pic from the video.

Darn! I was seriously going to Next Adventure this week to buy my fist kayak, a new Outback. Now I am in a quandary since the 180 drives won't be available until October. Reverse would be a nice feature.

with my engineer hat on (the colorful one with that cool propeller on top), I'm thinking that accelerated reliability testing is probably a gating factor for when these become available...

You Hobie people spend more money and time on drive maintenance than a PB :)

I realize you're just trying to get something started, but besides washing my drive off after saltwater use and lubing it every 5-6 outings (a 5 minute job) I've literally never done any maintenance to my drives nor had any problems.

And I've owned 2 powerboats (and a bunch more in the family) so... good luck with that argument  ;D

It's still more gear, more weight, and (slightly) more maintenance than my paddle kayak, I'll give you that.

If you need reverse, you planned poorly.  ;D I think I can take a quick paddle stroke or two (for the extremely rare times it is necessary) easier than leaning forward and yanking another string.

We know you've already PM'd Langston to put you on the list for when he can start ordering them in.   ;)

Honestly, the cost vrs the times I need reverse just doesn't pencil out. I will wait for the one that comes with my next Hobie.

Buy the reverse drive and for $110 more you can get reverse drive turbo fins. ;) I don't know if that is the case, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Agreed. An STT drive is $619 new. If the "+$150" pricing holds up for the new drive sold by itself, that's $770 for a new MD180 Turbo. I already have a spare ST drive with hardly any miles on it, but to sell it and buy a new MD180 when they come out would be a ~$350 investment. I don't need to go backwards bad enough to spend another $350 for a new drive which then won't have 100% parts commonality with my spare.

I love my Revo, but take away the Mirage Drive and it is seriously overpriced for what it is. The cost of Hobie kayaks just keeps going up, and up, and up....
