Idahobrit and I are talking about making a trip over to fish Puget Sound later this month.  Can anyone give us some tips on where to go?  We are also open to hiring a kayak fishing guide to help put us on the fish.

I have open ocean kayak fishing experience for rock fish and salmon in California.

Any recommendations?  Any info is greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Todd

Rockfish is not allowed to keep in Puget Sound. Salmon probably opens tomorrow. I do not know other fish in PS that possibly to catch, but flounders and sculpins... If you want good fishing better go to real ocean - areas 1-5.

Anywhere in the south sound is absolutely loaded with soles and flounder.  Fantastic game fish on light tackle. One of my favorite fisheries. Any access point, just drop shot a night crawler, 1/2 - 1 Oz weight is all that's needed. Fairly easy to catch 70- 100 fish in a day.  You'll catch a few sculpins, but also a few bonus spiny dogfish, some quite large. I've caught up to 8 species of fish in one day

Ok.  So if we don't go to the sound and head for the "real" ocean where should plan to go?  I know nothing about the Washington coast access!  FYI:  I have family in Bothel so I plan go through there on my way to wherever..

reelmccoy, I do not fish real ocean often. As I heard you can launch from any park, beach or boat ramp. Most popular places Neah Bay, Sekiu, La Push. I have been only to Westport, nice fish - a lot of rockfish, lings, etc. Cons - launch through surf (impossible if weather is not good), or you can launch from bay (some beach here) without any road or comfortable access, you just have to haul kayak through offroad few hundred feet. And very limited parking, usually always crowded with surfers.

We have had a change of plans and it looks like I'll be going by myself and headed to Oregon instead!
