If you have friends with illnesses, and who receive medications via mail, ask if they come packed with ice packs. I have a diabetic friend who gives me a small styrofoam cooler and 2-3 ice packs every couple of weeks. They are about 4"x6"x1", and so perfect for packing around fish.

+1 My wife is a nurse and occasionally gets throwaways at work. Those little coolers are great for bait or fish, and the freezer packs they use are top-grade stuff.

A nice feature of the Arctic Ice cooler packs is that they specify the temperature at which the contents of the pack freezes.  I haven't seen any other freezer packs where the manufacturer provides this information, so you don't know whether the freezer pack is any colder or more effective than a jug of frozen water.

Mixing ice packs and ice can make it quite interesting getting that nice cold thin-wall can of beer out of the cooler at the end of the day.

The ice melts, then re-freezes on the ice pack.  A half day later the whole shebang is one big block of ice with a fresh can of beer inside.
