From all the reports I've got the fish are still out a ways and even the charters are having trouble catchin them.

As for camping you can't go wrong with Miller's Landing. Tons of spots, a launch ramp on site or down the road is a public launch that puts you right into fish 100 yards off shore.

Last year I caught 2 silvers right off shore by the public beach on the opening day if the derby in 40-60ft of water. I always troll a triangle no drag flasher with a 6-10oz mooching weight attached directly to the front of the flasher. Behind the flasher I run 3-4ft leader with either a cut plug herring or a pink #5 Vibrax.

With all that sad you're going to have to put some time in because the fish really aren't there yet and you're gonna have to weed through the pinks!

GOOD LUCK, we may see you guys down there in 2 weeks

Awesome advice, thanks! I'll be at the city campground most likely, driving out to launch. Mom doesn't like Millers, she was in the '64 quake so she gets nervous there.

I have no clue if you are talking about the "yacht".  But its 71 feet and easily does 40 knots.  We were cruising at 33knts in fairly chopping conditions.  I think it had 5 staterooms and 5 bathrooms.

In addition, it has a gyro stabilizing unit that really reduces the rocking:

Was down there Saturday night and Sunday morning trolling.  Not a single bite.  Most people we talked to hadn't caught much either.  Some boaters were lucky.  One guy had a nice one from the beach at the end of pinnacle.  Floating herring under a bobber.  Who was that with the Tandem Island out there Sunday?  Cool looking setup!

I think these are current...  Basically follow boating laws...so no VHF required but I think you better carry a cell phone or a VHF...
