Hey guys! I'm looking for some  anglers to give me some tips on pacific city.  I've been looking at surf reports trying to figure out ideal conditions and a Google search isn't really helping. I went out awhile ago and it was perfect conditions with about 60 boats out as well.

Anyways all tips are appreciated!

Obvious starting point, from the NWKA front page:

And the very first response by Google when searching for kayak fishing pacific city:

Good luck!

This is also a great live webcam of Pacific City.  You can compare the Magic Seaweed forecast to what's is actually happening.  It's also a good way to make you jealous as you see people fishing while you are stuck at your desk!

Generally speaking, depending on your comfort level with the surf, under 3ft should be relatively easy, if you time it right.  Be aware of the secondary swells, wind, tides, as the wrong combination can lead to a bumpy and not fun day.  Staying close to the rocks at launch and exit are your best bets.

For gear, I fish for blacks with light gear (trout/steelhead caliber), and small swim baits with 1/3-1/2 oz jig heads.  For Lings and cabs, medium action 10-30lb rods are plenty.  1-3 oz lead is generally enough.

For your first time, anywhere around the rock is good.  More structure on the north side than the other sides, but it tends to be snaggy.  the south and east sides are more protected from the waves.

There are plenty of youtube videos on Kayak fishing Pacific City to get you in the mood.

Good Luck.  I think we will be there Monday next week.

Thanks Sam M  and Cosmo. I should have specified. I don't  know much about reading the ocean so I've been looking for info on what to look for. I was using magic seaweed and it was showing 2-4 swells. I then went to a page that had the camera and it was showing 1-2. I'm pretty sure I went out on a 1-2 ft day. Once I get experienced I'll be able to understand it more but I would love to out with some guys that understand it better and could teach me a thing or two.

Magic Seaweed will tell you the forecast for five important bits:

Swell height.
Swell period.
Swell direction.
Secondary swell height.
Secondary swell direction.

And also, wind speed and direction.

I'm really new to being in the ocean, but in general I need to look at swell height and period and wind speed and direction to make a decision.  No wind means the swells will be mounds, but as wind increases, the face of the swell - facing the wind - will become steeper and the sea will feel choppy and none too pleasant.

Similarly, secondary swells coming from a different direction than the primary swells will also make the sea bumpy.

I read the forecasts and run down the hill to look at the ocean, so I'm getting much better at understanding what the conditions I've read about look like in person.

Never been out from Pacific City, but the videos here in the forum that I've watched show a couple of tricky areas on the way out.  Good for you for asking for a senior partner to go with you.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Tinker, I like how you slipped "run down the hill to look at the ocean," into the conversation.   :P

Everyone still headed to PC tomorrow? I'd like to meet up with some folks so I can see how it's done. Especially launching. I'd also like to know how to get to the part of beach where people park and go launch
 ;D

We will be there. I think there is a fair number of people going out tomorrow.  Launching somewhere between 7-7:30am.

If you are going out onto the sand, 4 wheel drive is best.  Stay on the wet or compacted sand that everyone else is driving on.  Go as far down the beach as you can and find a spot to park, as far away from the water as possible. You will see the kayakers  loading up there.

Should be a good, calm and fishy day.

Drive to The Pelican Brew Pub in Pacific City go into the parking lot onto the beach (if your ride can handle sand) at the bottom take a right and don't park beyond the big sign. See ya there I'll be riding with Upnorthtex, white dodge Dakota 3 yaks on it.
