Hey everyone. Sorry for the dumb question, but I am really curious about this. When do you put the drysuit on? Do you put it on before leaving the house? Do you wait until you're about to launch and try find a suitable place where you won't accidentally puncture the suit? Do you pull it on while half-hanging out of your car before hauling your gear to shore?

I put it on as the last thing before I get on the water.  I stage my kayak at the launch then when I'm ready, I put on the dry suit.  Wrap myself with tyvek house wrap and change, easy peasy.  Reverse when I land, I like to get out of the dry suit right away so I wrap, change, the get on with unloading.  It doubles as a ground cloth for a bivy at the launch when you launch in the wilds like we do down here on the wild rivers coast.

Surfers have been doing it forever.

That's not a bad idea. I think I might try something similar, where I'll just bring a small tarp to help protect against rocks and just slide the suit on once I'm next to the water.

I carry my suit and water shoes in a reusable grocery bag, one of the larger vinyl ones so it is just loosely folded up in it.

After I carry my Hobie and all the gear down to the water and get it set-up and ready to go, I change into my suit last-  back at the car by just opening the rear door and changing there.  I stand on the grocery bag to keep my wool socks clean and also protect the suit socks until I get the water shoes on.    cheers, roger

Polyangler uses the lid from a plastic storage tote. I always forget to bring one and sit on the tailgate of the truck.

I bought a smallish wader bag at bimart, mostly mesh with a nylon fabric bottom. Holds my booties and the drysuit. I have a rubber doormat what was on sale at Home Depot to stand on and keep gravel off the socks. I just drop trow at the truck and suit up. You see worse stuff on the max train.

I usually put it on last thing before I launch, unless it's raining (then it's first). I have a "stand on my shoes by the car" method that looks hilarious and is probably not very functional, but I haven't punctured my drysuit yet (from that). Sometimes I sit on my bumper.

Just don't use a Cafeteria style food tray to stand on... They tend to slip pretty easily on gravel. Don't ask me how I know  ;D

Last thing before launch.

I just sit in on the back bumper of my Subaru and put the suit on one leg at a time. Leg goes in and bootie goes over it before my foot touches the ground. That way the drysuit sock never touches the ground and I don't need a mat to stand on.

At the end of the day, I sit back down on the bumper with a Rubbermaid tub nearby. Take off booties then step into the tub and strip off my suit. Again, I never step on the ground with exposed wetsuit socks.

Floor mats from the truck.  Or go to a carpet store and buy one of their discontinued-carpeting sample squares.

It's the last thing I do before launching.  I wear the base layer(s) under shorts on the drive so I don't risk making children cry if they see me changing...

The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

I'm pretty new to using a drysuit, but I've been putting mine on at my car after unloading and setting up my gear. I've stood on my life vest, on flip flops, and sat down on the seat of my pickup until my shoes were on over the rubber booties.
What do you guys wear on your feet? I've been wearing a really light pair of jogging shoes.

I use the "stand on shoes" method also. If its raining, I put it on at my house. I only live 2 miles from the beach though.

Amazing. This is just how I do it. I've got a Stohlquist onesie on under my jeans when I arrive but still hope for some privacy as I stand on my floor mat next to the truck.

My method of choice as well. Fast, easy, and functional. Also works your core as you balance on one foot that is standing on a wobbly shoe. ;)
