I just missed ramming a whale broadside yesterday while trying to get out of the way of a second whale.  Whale #1 was coming at me and I thought it only polite to yield the right-of-way - and as I was pedaling for what I'm worth, whale #2 surfaced right in front of me.  Right. In. Front. Of. Me.

Nothing on the GoPro because it doesn't face forward.

I could use some suggestions on ways to mount a GoPro for over-the-shoulder shots on a Revo 13.

I'm rigging an over shoulder mount now as well. I've got a Lucid on track rail, a 24" (RAP-CB-201-24U) & 18"(RAP-BB-230-18-201U) RAM extension poles, and a 1.5" RAM track ball on order. Thinking I'll mount the track on a vertical wall in the tankwell, insert 1.5" track ball, and attach all 42" of extension pole with GoPro on top. Having the RAM balls at the base and the 24" mark will allow for lots of articulation. When all my bits come in I'll look closer at the boat for where I want to mount. In the video posted. I took an old net handle, and attached the camera using a GoPro roll bar mount, and rigged the base to fit a Scotty flush receiver mounted behind my seat. Hope some of this helps get the wheels turning  ;)

Yeah it does.  Thanks!  Keep me posted as you put it all together?

I'll get started on this as soon as I finish cleaning-out my dry suit...    :-[

All my parts are in. Unfortunately there was a mix up in packing and I was sent the 24" extension with 1" X 1" sockets instead of the 1.5" X 1" ordered. I'll get that swapped this week. I had a 1" track ball on hand though, so for picture sake that's what I'm showing here.

Parts list:
24" RAM Extension with 1.5X1" sockets
18" RAM Extension with 1" ball X 1" socket
1.5" RAM Trackball
1" RAM GoPro mount
8" and 4" Lucid On-Tracks

I'll pull the boat down for surgery one day this week, but you can get an idea of how this will work. I'll likely put the 4" On-Track in the tankwell for the over the shoulder mount, and the 8" up front somewhere to expand the options a bit. I'll post more pics after install.

That should do the trick - definitely tall enough, and yes, there's plenty of articulating joints.

I'll get the parts on order.  At least this time I won't end up with a box of bits-and-pieces that didn't quite work!

Thank you.

Where can we find Lucid's On-Tracks rails?
I'm not seeing it on their website.

Thanks :)
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Not sure why they're not listed yet? They're very comparable to the aluminum YakAttack rails, only they have a few more holes for hardware placement options, and threaded holes for things like eye bolts for leashing. I'll see if I can figure out what's up. In the meanwhile, you can email them as well. I know they are in stock and ready to ship!

They're going live in the next few days. MSRP hasn't been set yet, but I'm told they'll be $5'ish less than Gear Track

Install of 4" track/over the shoulder mount complete. I wanted to put it in the same place, but forward of the rod holder. Unfortunately the Rev 16 has more inches than I have arm. Still happy with the location though. The 1" ball at the base definitely does not have enough grip for this set up. The 1.5" will be solid though.

The 4" On-Tracks will be priced at $14.95 with hardware, or $14.54 without.

The 8" are $21.57 with, or $20.78 without.

My tracks didn't come with hardware. Here's what I bought and fit like a glove.

I made a safety flag which mounts in a Scotty deck mount which I installed in the rear cargo area of my 13’ Revolution.

Installing the deck mount on the side of the rear cargo area was pretty difficult, partly because of the long and awkward reach, and partly because the foam floatation inside the gunwale interfered with getting at the bolts when I was installing the deck mount.

Because I wanted my safety flag to stick straight up, but the side of the cargo area is slanted, I needed to modify the base of the deck mount.  Because Polyangler's Go-Pro pole has a ball mount at its base , the gear track can be mounted flat on the slanted wall of the cargo area.

See http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=15155.msg164358#msg164358 for a description of my safety flag.

A GoPro pole mounted on and containing ball mounts will swing through an arc as the kayak rocks on waves, which will put a lot of stress on the ball mounts.  If the ball mounts slip under this stress, perhaps you could try making a GoPro pole based on Scotty parts such as the #412 replacement rod holder post, #259 rod holder height extender, #459 adjustable rod holder extender, and #427 multi angle adapter.  See http://www.scotty.com/fishing-gear-equipment/rod-holders/rod-holder-extenders.htm .  The rod holder extenders engage with gear-like teeth, so they wouldn't slip, but they wouldn't be continuously adjustable like a ball mount.
