So, while waiting for the 12v battery from Cabela's, I went ahead and hooked up two 7.2v 3300mA NiMH RC batteries in series for a total of 14.4v just to power up and navigate through the Cuda as well as set up the Overlay Data options.  For the life of me I cannot find "Volts" as an option anywhere.  On my Lowrance LMS-337 unit, it gives you the option of Volts to be displayed for monitoring the battery.

Am I missing it, or is this just not an option with the Cuda?
Also, I haven't figured out how to move these overlay options around on the screen, either.   :BangHead:

I'll have to fiddle with it more when I am not so tired (I work 12 hr nights).

Hmm, on my Cuda 245DS there is an option for a battery alarm and a voltage display.

How say you, Coosbayyaker?    Does your Cuda 250 have the option to display VoltsDC anywhere?   :computer:

My Cuda 242 has the option for displaying volts. The 250 should have it too! It's nice to know how much battery life is left.

based on the manual, which FFTW has proven inadequate, even when troubleshooting, they recommend to measure voltage at the power connector. This leads me to believe a voltage display isn't there.

To display voltage:

In the sonar mode push the "menu" button and scroll down to "Overlay Data", push the "Enter" button. Scroll down the list till you find "Voltage" (I think it's near the bottom of the list and the list is longer than one page).  Push the "Enter" button again and it should show a check next to voltage. Exit, voila!

So is it time to write a companion volume to the manual or what? ;D

I think the advantages touted are weight and ease of replacement (i.e. you can stop at gas station and buy new batteries on your way to fishing if you need to).  Personally, I like my sealed brick, I charge it once and it lasts me four or five fishing sessions easily.

I followed your directions to the letter, and there is no Voltage option for Overlay Data on my Eagle Cuda 250.  I even had my smarter wife follow your directions in the event I am blind to the word Voltage.  She had no luck either.

Wali,
is the voltage listed as "voltage" in the display or as VDC? [ Volts Direct Current]

Glad you guys are figuring this out.  I'm interested in this unit but would like to see it installed, and hear a couple reviews.  Keep up the good work!

Rich, I thought and looked for the same thing, and mine doesn't have anything listed that starts with "V".

Hmmf,

In an effort to recover my waning credibility, I tested my Lowrance/Eagle units (all 3). Problem is none of mine are a Cuda 250 ::)

Results: Both the Lowrance M68 and M56 had it where I thought it was and the Eagle Cuda 168 didn't.

All of my information comes from using the M56 which thus far has been identical to the Cuda 250. I found a Cuda 250 on display in a store and looked for and found the "hidden" tide and current info.CONFIRMED

The M68 is just the color unit (nifty little ebay steal ;D )  and the Cuda 168 is a completely different unit.

Now, I can't imagine that Eagle would go through the trouble/expense of having two chips to make their version of the m56 not display voltage. But what do I know?

My best guess is that you did not scroll all the way down the overlay screen. Seems that choice was waay down the list and that was a long list (more items than on the first page) and mine was listed as "Voltage". I'll try to make it out to Gander Mountain and play with the Cuda 250 on display. But I ain't making any promises as that always ends up in a thinner wallet.

I will leave my credibility in check and deem this myth PLAUSIBLE

You'd be surprised how many consumer electronics products are software upgrades with packaging changes to make them look different.
