Met up with DesertPaddler yesterday morning to beat up a few dogs. It poured rain the whole day with bouts of gusty winds. Conditions aside, DP was able to boat his first kayak chum! Twice even!! After netting it the first time  it flopped off his deck for round two! Unfortunately he had a gear malfunction and this was the only fish he landed, but did fight with a few more. Not sure how many I landed. 15? 25? Lost count early on, but it was A BUNCH. Got quite a few on the fly rod, but stuck primarily to twitching jigs due to the wind. Editing footage into a short vid. More to come on that in the next day or three. Here's a few pics of DP's multi round battle, follwed by a before and after pic of the jig I was using.

Sweet.  How did you get the jig into the fishes mouth?

Raw power combined with The Force and stuff. I also tied that batch from a voodoo priestess scalp. Not sure if that made a difference, but the fish appeared to be chanting  in tongues.

Thanks for the coaching, Polyangler.  The Force did not do a very good job with the weather.  But, survival makes good memories.

Happy to help! Was definitely a cold wet one to say the least! Next summer will be a pink season if you can make it up around mid Aug. Chinook should be hot then as well!

Looks like fun despite the weather!

So, by the time chum are arriving at the hatchery, are the fish very edible still or not?  Clean 'em and right into the smoker?

It varies quite a bit. I've gotten some nice looking fish like this one from the 2014 Slay Ride on Halloween day.

And I've gotten moldy old zombies. The nice bright ones make pretty kick ass jerkey when cut into strips and brined/smoked hard. Not my preferred grilling fish though...

I'm smoking mine tomorrow, so I'll let you know how it tastes. Meat looks good, but a little soft. For all of that work, I'm eating it!

Killer! I'm thinking of taking a trip out on Sunday.

Are you chasing any part of the tidal exchange? Or does it not seem to matter?

High tide typically fishes best, but I normally fish the majority if not the whole flood.

Thanks! Do you anchor? Or just drift and/or pedal to hold position?

I'm thinking about a run over Saturday morning.  Has anyone crabbed in the area?  Thinking about bringing a couple of pots to soak.  Really appreciate the advice and if I make it Saturday I'll post what I find Saturday night.  I'm assuming I'll drift bouncing a jig and paddle back into the wind towing a vibrax or some and repeat.  After seeing poly's jig colors the cat is pissed walking around looking for who took the feathered toy she liked:-)  It was about the same color feathers and yarn....
