Met Dino and others yesterday.  Pretty calm and have to agree, a sleigh ride on any gear is fun.  Caught several and had a long ride with a released one hooked in the adipose fin.  Makes for an interesting tail-first netting.  Kept one 10+lb with some camo color and teeth that would make a pit-bull blush and have it brine for the smoker.  bleed quickly the meat was almost like a white king.  Will let post up how it comes out. in shallow water, these guys fight as hard as almost anything but for a tuna.

Silly fun! Chum are pretty damn strong, and in that shallow water all they can do is run away from you!

Second that on the lap dances...did try to smoke this fellow and have to admit it wasn't up to normal standards even with a quick bleeding and care using the old tried and true brine and smoking process of old.

So, if we bring home an ugly fish or 4, would it still be usable for making heavily smoked salmon jerky / candy?  I love the stuff as much as a lightly smoked chunk of fish, and I hate the thought of keeping a fish and not using it.  Got a smoker and a dehydrator both available.

I am planning to drive over and check in with payment and waivers on Saturday morning.  I might bum an assist down the stairs from any free bodies :)

If it's dark, then don't even bother. If it's not dark and has at least a little bit of silver left - it'll probably work just fine for those purposes.

I cut them into 1-2" wide strips, and brine them super firm with brown sugar & salt + other seasonings. Smoke them at a low heat until jerkey tough. It's surprisingly good that way, and broken up in a food processor then mixed with whatever soft cheese and herbs makes a pretty kick ass spread. I've done that with pretty colored up fish like these. Bucks hold up better than hens too.



But when they reach zombie status like this, I don't even like touching them!
