Anyone seen these or tried these? Looks pretty interesting. I've been looking for a quick release rod holder, might try and get one.

They made donations to two of our tournaments, unfortunately I don't remember who got the 6 that got donated to TBMD 2. I got to play with one on dry land in my living room and gotta say I'm going to eventually buy one for every boat I got.

I have one. I like it for the most part, but getting long handled salmon rods out of it isnt quite as smooth as I would like.  The 2 point base is awesome though.

Right on, I might have to get one and try out.

Take a look at the Scotty Orca before you buy those.  They're really solid, easy to use, and do what they say they'll do.   I have a pair you can check out when I see you next.

Try a Stealth rod holder and a Scotty baitcaster/spinning rod holder before you buy a Stealth rod holder.  These rod holders are very similar, except that the Stealth rod holder has a rubber device in its throat which grabs the handle of the rod.  I don't find the rubber thing at all helpful, and prefer the Scotty baitcaster/spinning rod holder.  If you anticipate trolling for Salmon or other big fish which may pin the rod in its holder when they strike, and you want a clamshell style rod holder which will make it easier to get your rod out of the holder when you catch a big fish, I agree with Lee: check out the Scotty Orca and the Folbe Advantage, which is pretty similar.

While the design of the base and shaft of a Stealth rod holder is similar to the design of Scotty bases and rod holders, they aren't interchangeable.  See http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=16987.msg189811#msg189811 .

I went from the Scotty baitcaster/spinning to the stealth and definitely like the Stealth more, but it does not release the salmon rods like i wanted.  If you can be over the rod holder and pull straight up it works well, but coming from a seated kayak, the butt of the rod catches.   The rubber thing definitely holds the rod more securely when you need to reel up or what not and not remove.

There's been some other threads that discuss this rod holder as well, check 'em out.

My experience has been mixed. I like it for some stuff and prefer other rod holders for other stuff. Right now it is my primary salmon/heavy trolling rod holder.

I like the two point track system on the Stealth rod holders, and have been happy with mine overall. One thing to be conscious of is that Casting rods can get caught on the rubber part of the stealth holder when lifting up on the rod holder (finger grip on the rod.) If you're trolling with heavy weight or with downriggers this can be a bit of a nuisance. I have found that I can safely set the finger rest outside of the rod holder while still leaving a significant enough portion of the rod "butt" in the rod holder.... I have also done a small amount of trolling with spinning rod and reel and really love it for that. I will bring mine this weekend (if I can make it) for you to check out.

Overall I find it's a high quality product, well made and the support at stealth is fantastic. They're definitely a mom and pop type operation which is nice.

Using it with trout or low profile bait casters has worked well for me so far.  Trout rod pops out great and is held really securely.
