Hello all,

Anyone know where I can get a good size of a halibut? Homer? WG?
Driving 5-6 hrs and get nothing is just too much gas.  Specially fishing from a kayak and coming back home with empty hand... Oh boy! The wife is yelling.... shh.. don't tell her I told you this...thank you!

WG is a good kayak fishing spot for Halibut, but I don't know if anyone has been targeting them lately. In late fall the big halibut are said to move out to deeper water.

Fishing is never a sure thing, and especially not kayak fishing. You never know unless you go! You can always pick up a couple filets at Fred Meyer on the way home if the wife is threatening your fishing privileges.

With the last winter El Niño impacts Kachemak Bay water temperature was 42°F on February 9th, 2016 when this top photo was taken. We landed a 75 pound halibut on the salmon 20# troll gear in 21 feet of water that day at the head of Kbay.

The warm water "blob" is still hanging on this winter in the North Pacific and Cook Inlet has 48°F water temperature right now in the Homer area. The second photo was halibut and kings taken on October 16, 2016 out around the Main St. Hole from Homer. So at least for now there could be something available if you are in the right spot or get lucky. You never know what may be still available.
