Was just browsing through the AOTY pages to see if anyone has made an entry yet. I noticed that there are 8 new species added to the list now. Most important from my AK perspective is there are 3 in that group that are present in Alaska as additional targets to fish for.

New:
Sturgeon
Carp
Pike Minnow
American Shad
Sucker
Burbot
Whitefish

Bullhead (not catfish)

Would sure like to see a kayaker land a 10 foot sturgeon this season.  :D Any Snake River anglers?

Sadly, whole those species are listed in the catch entry pull down, they are not official species for points.   I added them so that people can record their catches like a journal.   We may consider some of those species for a special rough fish award.

Here are the official rules for 2017's AOTY.

Quick slam rules question?  Were Kokanee considered as part of the salmon slam?  More of a salmon than steelhead?  Not a fish nerd, just asking.

Might give inland folks some more motivation though.

Still lobbying for stripers.  After all, I haven't seen a Grayling, a Dolly Varden or any Arctic char down here.  Ever.   :P

Are you guys ready to take our 2017 entry fees?

The link for 2017 AOTY is on the AOTY home page. There it has the $40 entry fee.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

Whoops, my bad.  :embarassed: Dang, I was already making plans on how to fish for burbot and suckers from a kayak.

Glad to see the interest in AOTY so early in the year! Sorry I haven't been online much this winter with work and weather and holiday stuff.

Yes the link/info on the home page lower left is out of date, it will get updated as soon as possible.

It is $40 for 2017.

Thank you to bsteves for the clarification on the "rough fish" species, and for all the help getting payment and signup ready to go so early in January. He is really a pivotal part of getting NWKA up and running each year, so holler a thanks at the Sportsman's Show or ORC or wherever you see him.
