I just picked up a used pro angler 14. I am new to this site also. I am an avid fisherman and need to learn a few things. Does anyone have a trip planned in the next few weeks that I could come a long?

Without knowing your area it's hard to say, were fishing the Tillamook Bay next Sunday but not the best place to get used to a new ride.

Welcome to NWKA. This group covers a large area so where are you living? Either way there will be lots of people to hook up with. Oh I made a pun.
Nice kayak by the way.

I do come down that way at least twice per year. My favorite place to go. Do you ever fish the Nehalem?  Where do you usually go?

A time our two on the Nehalem and with some success ask "spot" I can still hear him cursing at me  :spittake:
I literally live on the bay at The Old Mill so Tillamook Bay as often as I can find a buddy that's free to join as I rarely go out alone. Pacific City is 30 minutes away so the big blue is my first choice, no brainer there.

I applied for a job at the cheese place as a tech but did not get the job.  I will be sure to contact you when I head back down. What kind of life jacket do you recommend

I have a NRS Chinook pfd and really like it.  The couple features I would look for are having a mesh back for comfort leaning back against the seat and pockets in front. In the short term, any quality pfd that is actually worn will be adequate.

The two best times to fish is when it’s raining and when it ain’t. -Patrick McManus

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.

I use a Stohlquist Fisherman PFD that I really like. Ultimately though you will want to try on as many as you can and go with the most comfortable one for you. if it's not comfortable then you won't wear it.... Also I know several guys that prefer the auto inflating types which are great prior to needing to be inflated, but can severely hinder your ability to get back into the kayak should you go overboard.

Schrudds,

i'm in Kent and just picked up a Seward Tyee sit-in to go with the Trident 13 and the other three if the garage.  Not sure of your free hours, but Lake Meridian on the east hill of Kent has a nice launch and is 2.2 miles around.  I have multiple PDFs and you could try them.  If you wanted to get the boat wet and do some experimenting with someone following along, happy to arrange a paddle.  I'd suggest fresh water for a shakeout or two, but with that boat, unless you're doing laps on top of the boat the odds are good you're staying on top and dry.  There are some nice launches along Alki and Lake WA as well.
Not sure how much fishing/paddling you've done, but it's a bit different out of the kayak and it's good to load up the way you might hit the salt and then get used to how the kayak works, try some trolling, etc.  You will learn a lot the first few times.    Let me know if you know how to PM and we could set up some times.

PFD's?

First one was a Stohlquist Trekker that is great for kayaking, but I thought I needed more pocket storage and changed to a Stohlquist Fisherman with all the pockets I could ask for, but I felt it slowed me down on water re-entries when I got a Hobie Revo, so I moved on to a Kokatat Bahia Tour which is the most comfortable of the three I've owned.

I should have stayed with the Trekker because I don't carry much stuff in pockets these days, and it is the most streamlined PFD for hauling my carcass back onboard...
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.
