It's not an amazing forecast and it's still a ways off, but Saturday isn't looking too shabby at the moment.

Anyone thinking of hitting the salt that day if the forecast holds?  I'm contemplating between that and steelhead.  Been a while since I've taken the kayak out, so I'm kinda leaning towards the former  :).

We were looking at that , and by we I mean I texted a bunch of guys itching to scratch the sand on the bottom of there kayaks. Looks like the door is getting slammed if nothing else from the wind, we'll ALL be watching it closely.  :banjo:

It's funny to see 10 names of people reading this thread....guess we all have a little pent up kayak urge.

Cool, I knew I couldn't be the only one watching this  ;D.  How would Depoe Bay look with this kind of forecast, if it holds true?

Brutal for sure.  If the forecast falls apart, I'm cool with steelhead fishing.  Been doing that every weekend the last few weeks and haven't been skunked yet  :).  Plus the forecasted rains this week should pull in a new batch of fish.

MSW is the only forecast that isn't showing moderate to heavy rain both Saturday and Sunday, and Sunday looks to have really big waves and strong winds, so maybe a storm is coming onshore on Sunday.

I'm trying to learn to read forecasts for distant places from the more experienced members, but I'm not seeing marginal conditions in any forecast for Cape Kiwanda, Nesticcas, or Netarts.  Am I looking at the wrong spots to gauge Pacific City?

That's a pretty ridiculously small winter window.  I wouldn't count on it actually coming to fruition.  I mean, it might, but small winter windows a few days out have a way of disappearing.

I won't prep any gear until I see what the forecast reads on Friday.  I agree, this forecast is probably a pipe dream...but if it does happen to be a great day, I don't want to be kicking myself for not being ready for it.

Just watch the buoys, I've seen plenty of forecasts go either way but the buoys don't lie.

All right for all those pooping on our hopeful party ... PISS OFF , we can dream can't we!!! We can dream about that sweet salt water smell as the waves gentle and small  lightly roll on the beach on an overcast windless day filled with a bunch of plastic riding fish junkies foaming at the mouth waiting for the perfect launch wave to paddle/ peddle out to the open ocean and feel the salt water spray out faces as we grin from eye brow to eye brow with the thought of limits of rockfish dancing through or deprived of fish warped minds?? ? ? ? ? WELL CAN'T WE ?

Okay I feel better now  :o
Im going to lay down now, I think I sprained my brain.

My money is on no.  The system forecast has been bouncing around waaaay too much - too much uncertainty.  Plus, has anyone else looked at the wind forecast? Yikes.

I second using buoys, I watched Magic Seaweed change from 2-4ft waves to 9-14 for Friday in 36 hours.

Wouldn't it be funny to find out some egghead is purposely changing it to look good on a weekend, a week our, just to get our hopes up then laughing his arse off two days prior as he changes it to the reality.   >:D

Mr. Jojo, I was not trying to piddle on your dreams - or anyone else's dreams for that matter.  Part of my 2017 goal for AOTY is to try fishing different spots around the state to bring my pitiful 2016 points up.  It seems to me that to do that, I need to understand how to make at least a 50/50 guess at what the conditions will be.

Newport and Pacific City is a leave-home-Friday-morning-to-fish-Saturday kind of a trip for me, so trying to figure out how to make a reasonable guess about what it might be like that far away is one of those things I'm still trying to figure out.

I can make the drive and find poor conditions, but I don't want to do that all the time.  I'd like to be able to hit the water at least one out of every four trips.   8)

Buoys!  That's the ticket!

Thanks, all!
