It looks to me like tomorrow might actually be ok and I just happen to have the day off. I realize most people probably work but if you wanted to go, I will be there. Either way, I will make sure to post a report.

What are you looking at that makes Pacific City seem OK to you tomorrow?  Just curious what your experience level is too.

3 to 5 foot surf, low winds, swell that doesn't seem too bad . I would like more than 10 seconds between swells but I think I will be fine . It looks like today's weather is really windy but what I saw on magic seaweed and another makes me think it will be good.

Are you thinking it won't be good? If you know or see something I don't, please let me know.i am certainly not saying I am any kind of expert on predicting good days but I have been pretty fortunate so far on the days I have chosen to head out. If you see something I don't or if I am reading it wrong, please let me know.

As far as my experience on the water, I think I have had my hobie kayak for 4 or five years. I don't go out nearly as much as I would like  maybe 5 times a year in the ocean. I felt pretty competent and I am confident in my ability to self rescue, not go if it's dangerous,  comeback in if it is. I use a dry suit, fly the flag. Have a radio etc etc. I mostly go by myself cuz I usually have a hard time finding people to go but tomorrow I will likely go with a friend who is just starting out

The wind does "calm down" for a window tomorrow according to magic seaweed.  What I see is the major wind expected to blow today will make the ocean rough, and there will definitely be leftover wind wave from this. There's also more wind coming if you look ahead to the next day.  My experience says that the wind machine just doesn't turn off like that, so these small windows of opportunity often close.

I also see a secondary swell that is about the same height and period as the primary but at a 90degree direction- that equates to a sloppy washing machine feeling instead of an organized single swell.

The overall storm system this week has been talking about atmospheric rivers with massive amounts of rainfall and cold temps. Magic seaweed doesn't provide this long term view, but the storms change quickly and move onshore in a very unpredictable manner.

I wouldn't go, but each person makes their own decision.

This afternoon MSW shows the primary swell as 8.5-12.5' from the SSW. Tomorrow the primary swell forecast is for 4.5-5' from the NW at 9-10 seconds, and the secondary swell is 4-4.5' from the SW at 8-9 seconds.

Particularly in Winter/Spring, I don't bank on a rapid change in conditions (big SSW swell to a moderate NW swell), and the secondary swell will hit the PC beach without the protection of Cape Kiwanda. Then again, many have more experience reading PC conditions than I.

For me, and only me, that forecast suggests a high likelihood that I'd make a 2.5 hr one-way drive for wave watching and a Pelican beer, not that that's a bad thing. And, I'll kick myself if I miss a good fishing window at PC this time of year!

Hey, I'm trying to learn to read conditions at Pacific City, too and what bothers me about looking at Magic Seaweed for PC is there isn't a buoy or a listing for a meteorological station within 100 miles, so how is MSW extrapolating the forecast?  Where's it coming from?

There's a station in Garibaldi (it's been offline for days) to the North and one Newport 130 miles to the South, but none are listed in between those two.

If you go, I wish you good luck and great fishing, and let us know what it was like on scene instead of on MSW, please?  It'll help me figure out what those forecasts actually mean.

The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

yep,  this is how I look at it as well.   The wind gusts are not going to be fun if they materialize.   Both swells will likely make it  a turbulent day, all dayu.   100% chance of rain.   Could be a mess.   Stay safe if you go.   I wouldn't be taking a newby out in that.  Go fish Tillamook Bay if you have an urgent need to get a line wet.

and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."
