MSW forecast has held for a few days now...fingers crossed. Anyone seeing conflicting info? And yes, I know that Monday is still unpredictable this time of year.

p.s. I'll claim mentoring by Mojo on the original incorrect date ;-), and accept full responsibility

Indeed, the forecast does inspire some hope.   keep fingers crossed.

I'm not familiar with how a wind from that direction changes the game at PC. I'd guess that because it's blowing into the swell it will create a short steep chop. Starting to look at other options...

If the wind comes from the SE, the water is not protected by the cape headlands, so wind wave will likely add to the swell.  There's a lot of fetch (distance over water) for wind coming from the South to result in a significant wind wave.  When the wind comes from the NW, Cape Kiwanda protects that area near Pacific City beach and most of what the kayakers will see is the swell.

This is a decent site to check the winds:

https://www.windytv.com/45.202/-123.963?2017-03-20-15,44.745,-123.967,8,m:eUvacIy

I don't know how accurate this is for Pacific City, but it's been pretty spot-on in this area for the past year:

https://www.windfinder.com/forecast/pacific_city

Both of them are quite a bit more accurate off the beach than MSW has been down here, but MSW is pretty good for predicting the surf for launch conditions.

The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

At PC a strong SE definitely creates  some rough conditions with a nw or w swell.  However, run around the cape and the area toward Tierra deal mar is nice and protected close to shore.  That said, there is usually some degree of SE winds most every non storm type day at PC before the wind switches to the predominant NW direction.

On dry true east wind days, the wind actually knocks down the swell a bit but still makes fishing harder.  You can tuck in behind the rock but make sure the east wind is not too strong you can't get back to the beach.

Devon, once again you have come true with some really good info on the old NWKA forum and thanks for posting. It is nice to have a member with such close and well-earned knowledge about Cape Kiwanda fishing and the confidence and grace to share.

I think this morning would have been great. It looked pretty nice from the parking lot. We were wishing we didn't leave the kayaks at home.

The wind really picked up this afternoon.  Around 5:00 pm the Coast Guard  helicopter showed up.  Nestucca valley rescue sent out 2 skidoos from the beach.  What I thought looked like a yak or smaller dory turned out to be a guy on a pontoon boat/ raft.  The kind you see on the deschutes.  He was tucked in south of the rock waiting for help and got towed in by the ski.  Really fast ride in through the surf.  Crazy!!  He had a wetsuit on and a pfd.  Really lucky though.

Interesting.  Majic Seaweed predicted the highest wind today was at 3 pm and was 9 mph with gusts of 13.  Sounds like it was way more than that.

Being retired, they pay me when I go fishing, therefore I am kind of a professional fisherman.
