Simple question. If it will work, will it have any performance issues?  I plan on moving the hook 7 between two different kayaks and I want to permenantly install the transducer on each. My older kayak had an Elite 4x. I don't want to buy a second transducer if I don't have to.

If it's like my hummingbird, it will work but it will probably only pick up one of the frequencies of the elite 7. My 383 transducer works on my 487 but not on all of the frequencies.

Thanks.

I had an Elite-4 (not a 4x) that died, Lowrance replaced it with a Hook 5 head unit, and it works perfectly with the 83/200 455/800kHz transducer leftover from the Elite.  No performance issues whatsoever.

The Hook series can use an optional transducer that may not be backwards-compatible with an Elite head unit. It's a ridiculously expensive transducer and the retail Hook kits I've seen come packaged with the same transducer that we got with the Elite units.

The 83/200 455/800kHz transducer from my Elite works for me, and I think you'll be fine.

That's what I'm hoping, thanks.  Iwill find out when I take the boats out later this week for a shake down.  They look the same to me, but that doesn't mean anything.  The sheer amount of options and combinations and product rebranding, name changes, etc. is confusing to say the least.  I google searched what I figured to be a simple common question and whoa.  The hull truth had a couple threads but they were older threads and it seems like if the information about lowrance isn't within the last several months it likely isn't current.

I really do like their display and the price is competitive, so fingers crossed that I don't need to get that second transducer.

Let us know what you find out.
You could also call lowrance, both of those units are current products, someone in tech support should be able to answer that quickly.

Lowrance technical support says... "Yes!"  The transducers are interchangeable between the Elite series and the Hook series if the transducer cable has the blue-colored plug at the head unit.  Good luck!

Sweet!  Thanks for that.  They do in fact both have blue plugs and connectors at the head units.
