The campground got some pretty bad revues on Trip Advisor. More bad than good actually. I've never been there, has anyone else had this experience?  I want my wife to have an enjoyable time also.

I don't know anything about the campgrounds but all of them in the area get 4 stars from Google reviews.  I don't particularly trust Trip Advisor from my own personal experience - but not at Depoe Bay.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

I would say that any bad reviews could be from some of the folks that live full time there.  They may get cranky when folks like us take over their space for a weekend.

I don't know what people look for in a campground, but I know that in years past, they have helped us out due to bad weather by giving us space in the barn for free.  Also, not many campgrounds you can walk your kayak from your tent, to the river and catch a nice fat salmon in less than 10 minutes.

Another nice thing is they can accommodate what ever number we throw at them. They are flexible.  That doesn't happen at most other campgrounds.

It is a campground, not a KOA RV park with concrete slabs for Class A coaches.  The lack of cell phone coverage might also be construed as a bad thing by the more discerning crowd.  I've enjoyed the campground and setting and the folks really have supported ORC over the years.

Some have stayed at Beverly Beach state park nearby when fishing the ORC, don't know if space is still available for July though.

I don't know what the place is like that's why I asked. What I can handle may not be what my more sensitive wife may be able to. I dont care about cell coverage or wifi. When the revues say nasty unusable toilets and trash eeverywhere I start asking questions.  Is it like this?

I have never had a problem with their bathrooms. Although, all I do there is brush my teeth and use the toilet.

This is a timely question though, since I was contemplating writing a guide for rating the public shitters of Northwestern Oregon. As a morning guy, this is near and dear to my heart when i am out fishing.

Every experience I've had at that campground has always been great. I'd take my wife there if it wasn't a fishing tournament :)

I too have had great experiences at Chinook Bend every year.  There's good reason we keep making it the ORC headquarters year after year.  This place is a true slice of Oregon.

I foresee Craig asking the new weirdest question on here " so if you had to rate the public shitters at or on the way to fishing launches on a scale of number 1 our number 2 , and list your favorite or hated amenities as well as paper thickness and softness from no ply to wiped with a log." :pottytrain5: :pottytrain4: :pottytrain3:

Looking grim this year...

Dang July is stuffed with stuff...  Two east coast week-long lacrosse events and one lacrosse weekend in Bend, then a buddy's planning a week long salmon trek to the Kenai.   ORC is same weekend as Philadelphia.

No complaints about Chinook Bend here.  Though their rates have gone up a bit in the last couple of years.  I was originally figuring I'd drive down that Thursday after I get off work, but I'll likely head out early Friday instead to save that one night's expenses.

Thanks. Do you have many data point on Highway 26?  Mine are mostly Highway 6, 30, and 18 as well as a few coastal launch sites and the Troutdale McDonalds.  ;D

Be careful which coat hook you choose in this Highway 6 gem.;)
