I got everything loaded already and battery, GoPro, and radio all charged.  Yeah, I'm a little excited (and a little nervous).

Forecast deteriorated a little: they're calling for a Small Craft Advisory starting around 2pm tomorrow.  But the morning is still looking nice.  Looking to reach Depoe around 0700 to fish until the fan turns on.

I would suggest when the wind begins to rise but still comfortable, to move closer to the buoy so it's a clear shot to the hole if it starts to get sporty.

Copy that.  Given this change in the forecast, chances are good that I'll stay south of Government Point tomorrow and just work the local reef.

Given this is my first kayak trip in 7 months after a really lazy winter, and being wing man for an ocean first timer, we may not venture too far from the buoy North or South.  There is good structure all over the area on the south side that usually hold lots of fish.  No need beating myself up covering a ton of miles.

I'll be in the older white Tacoma with two dune colored Hobies.  Hope to be there by 6-630.

I'll keep an eye out for ya.  We'll be rolling in a silver F-150 with a pair of ivory dune Revo 13s.  The guy I'm going with is also kinda new, so chances are good we'll take it slow and chase the blacks and lings on the local reef.  If I can roll back in with a pair of lings and a few sand sole, I'll be a happy camper :D.

Good morning on the ocean for me and a couple new guys I took out. Met Dampainter and Monkeyfist out by the first buoy. DB was very busy with boats and yaks today. Parking was very limited. We only fished a couple hours. I got a limit of BR and released a cabbie. New guys got a few fish and had a good safe trip.

Good to meet some new folks and put faces to names out there!  Nice morning at Depoe.  Like gexrich said, it was uber busy with boats waiting in line to launch.  But the fishing was pretty solid.  I banged out 35 and 32 inch lings within the first 30 minutes of fishing.  With the lings in the bag, I spent the rest of the morning guiding my newbie kayaker friend to his first-ever legal lings and a limit of rockfish.  Watched Dampainter nail a dandy of a ling as he came by to see what we were up to.  My newbie friend ended up taking a dunk in the salt.  Lost a rod and some tackle, and the Vantage seat on the Hobie.  But he successfully self-rescued and still wanted to fish, so we fished!  Called it a bit before noon, just as the south wind was picking up.  I CnRed probably 25 or 30 rockfish (mostly blacks, a couple blues), and put in a little time for flatfish but the flatties weren't playing.

So if anyone is looking to get rid of a Vantage seat, I'd love to hear about it  :D.

It was definitely a good day out on the ocean.  With this being my first trip out in the ocean, I couldn't have asked for better conditions (although it was getting a little sporty out there on the way back in).  I didn't Chum the fish, I didn't go for a swim, and I got some fish.  It was a win!

I ended up with 4 rocks and 2 lings.

Here is one picture I have from my phone.  This was my first ever lingcod.  Unfortunately I had to throw this one back.  He was only 21.5 inches no matter how many times I measured him. 😉

Here is the big rock.

And the bigger of the 2 lings.

I'm ready to go again!!!

Thanks Cosmo and INSAYN for keeping an eye on this noob.

It was good meeting you there Clayman.

Ray, you did great today. We all fished well and brought home plenty of fish.  I'm downloading pics and videos now.  Thanks to you, Insayin and Little Insayn for letting me tag along for the ride.

I ended up with 6 keeper blacks, 1 keeper ling that was 26, 3 CNR lings at 24 inches, 4 fat cabbies, and several CNR blacks.  Here's a pick of a double Ling hook up, both at 24 inches.

It was also my first time out seeing whales pass right by us.  Let's get out again.
