I have used this battery for over 5 years. If weight and size are an issue, lithium is the way to go. It runs my Garmin Striker 5DV over 12 hours.

I'm rather surprised (and glad) nobody has melted a hole in their kayak with a lithium ion battery while on the water. I gave up on those.

SLA all the way !!!! Just solder the wires to the terminals and cover in marine goop then electric tape a few times around to hold the wires to the battery and solder on your favorite waterproof auto connectors. Easy peasy rice and cheesy.

I run a K2 Energy 10 Ah battery on my Dragonfly 7. Works great. I have never run it down all the way (bad idea), but easily fish 2, 6 hr days without a charge. I think the screen brightness matters. No fires! It is mounted in a drybag with quick electric connections to to quickly swap it to the charger. A little pricey, but light, clean and very dry.
