First few sturgeon

I've spent a lot of time trying to get our local rivers dialed in, with mostly burned calories and dink bass to show for it. With all the research I've done online and with books, it finally settled on me that surgeon might make for a good way to put a bend in your rod when the bass won't play.

All I can say is, catching sturgeon is a riot! Getting towed around on my kayak made me feel like I was yellowtail fishing again. I used ghost shrimp and went 3 for 3. I was exhausted after the third and had a long paddle back to the launch, so I left them biting. Which, given their size, they must be eating a lot.

All fish released... I only keep salmon and steelhead, though that's only theoretical since I only can land wild fish. 

We are always glad to see the stoke amongst folks new to the sport. That first one sure looks >54".

Oversize sturgeon cannot be removed totally or in part from the water.

Thanks for the heads up! I'm not sure how big they were, but I need to carry a tape measure next time I give them a go, without a doubt. I definitely didn't expect such success on my first try!

Sounds like a blast!  I need to give those dinosaurs a shot someday.
