Hey there fellow yakers. I'll admit I'm new to the sport. I got my kayak back in November, and given the weather this past winter there hasn't been much opportunity to get out there until now. I've had some luck on the local lake, Henry Hagg, but my wife is not too keen on the idea of me going out to the river on a solo mission. So I'm here to try and find some folks that might want to make it a safer team effort.

My yak was not offically built for fishing right off the factory line. It's more of a recreational kayak, but with a few modifications it's done an okay job.

Got a few fish pics from last weekend.

Nice pictures!!  From the looks of the photos it appears you yak does just fine for fishing.  Hey..I have never been to Hagg Lake, do they have camping over there?  I have been given a free pass for the weekend with the kids in our RV...I believe it is free fishing for kids this weekend.  Now I just need somewhere to take the ole' PA and show the kids a real good time WITHOUT those damn iPods!!

Sadly, no, it's day use only at Hagg. I think the closest camping to there is Gales Creek Campground way out on Wilson River, Hwy 6.

Free fishing for everyone this weekend, not just kiddos.

Welcome wader up.  I'm in your neck of the woods, in Cornelius.  I just got off of Hagg Lake a little while ago.  No fish love for me today.  Not even a bite.  What river are wanting to go out on?  What are you planning on targeting?

Hey hdpwipmonkey, I hit Hagg twice this weekend and all I got was a dinky trout that popped off the hook at the last second.
I was loooking at the Willamette for bass. There's that slough on the west side of Ash Island that looks promising, or the Rock Island just south of West Linn. I'd like to try the Tualatin and Yamhill Rivers as well.
Targeting shad on the Columbia would be a good option this month, but I've never attempted that fishery before and not sure where the hot spots are.

I have dropped in my Yak a couple of times at Hagg, and, besides one bite, I have yet to see anyone catch any fish any of the times that I have been out.  I have been wanting to try to find the route to Barney Res as there is supposed to be a population of Native Cutties up there for C&R.

I have even tried the upper reaches of the Wilson, but someone stated that I should drop in lower on the river if I want to catch anything.

I like making the 3 hour trek to Elkton and dropping my Yak in at Slide and paddling upstream.  I have had phenomenal days on the Umpqua.

I am also curious about the Yamhill as reports state there are good populations of Smallmouth in the Carlton, Dundee and Lafayette area.  I am used to 70-100 fish days on the Umpqua and JD river so I think that it may be a disappointment.

Good luck.

I was just talking to the UPS delivery guy about Barney, and he said that the gate on the main road has been closed this year. Fish up there are real nice though.
