What a great day out there today.  It got a little sporty when the wind picked up but it wasn't totally uncomfortable.  I got to see a couple of whales and I got my first legal sized cabezon.  Of course that was all I caught.  I ended up catching 4 cabbies all day.  I couldn't even manage a rockfish.  Oh well.  I ended up keeping the first one I caught (18 inches).  Be next 3 were all bigger.  The last one, I was certain was a Ling the way it fought and pulled drag.  The launch was smooth and the landing was even better.  There was even some sunshine later in the day.  I couldn't have asked for a better first time trip.
Now its time for a nap then I'll go through the GoPro footage.

Well, that was surely the first of many trips to PC. Like hdpwipmonkey said, mellow conditions getting in and coming out. This was my first time cabezon fishing, and those 20"+ cabs pull better than I could have imagined. Lots of life in the water today.

I ended up keeping my first cab, about 21", and released a good handful more. Only managed one black rock fish worth taking home, plus a few tiny ones. Also managed my goal of catching some lings, biggest going about 31".

All of my fish came on swimbaits my buddy pours in his garage.

Another great day on the water. I really appreciate the crew I was on the water with today... You guys helped keep me properly rigged, and it's always a good laugh. Thanks again guys!

I can't imagine not heading back out Sunday, especially if the weather is better than today.

Here's a clip of me swinging twice before finally connecting. This is my first shot at editing/publishing a go pro video on YouTube, so forgive me.

That's a good short video clip.  You had me chuckling when you missed him on the second swing...   :D

Ok, here is my video.

Thanks Mojo, Hydro, and Heliumhead for joining me on my first trip out of PC!

Now I'm trying to think if I can swing a trip Sunday morning and still go to work Sunday night...  >:D

You're clearly addicted to ocean fishing now.   Already willing to compromise a day of work.   :sign10:

Just plan on getting up and out there really early so that you can be off the water early.  Should have no problem making it back for your shift Sunday night!!!    :)

I'm planning on being out there Sunday - hope to see you there.

I had a great time with everybody and caught my limit, sort of. Caught a nice black on way to rock, put it on game hook, and promptly threw it all in the water... and I knew immediately that I had not tied it down properly. Double check next time!  Minutes later caught a 35"+ Ling. What a fight!  I bled him and put him in forward hatch. Fishing again and suddenly my entire kayak shakes and I though I was being attacked!  It was the Ling thrashing around in the kayak!  LOL. I had another great strike but the fish, presumably a Ling, took the back half of my lancer jig and is probably really plugged up right now!  Next lancer jig caught a large Cabby. I also had two shrimp flies on the line but caught nothing on those today.

Between rock and buoy one of the dory boats was catching blacks fly fishing,  said that rockfish were on surface eating crab eggs. Lost another lancer jig to a rock and so switched to light tackle, a 2 oz Jig head, Berkeley Gulp 6" Squido and exactly 33' of line.  Four more blacks, the last two between rock and beach while coming in.

Had to bend Ling to fit in cooler.  Filleting a curved fish is harder than filleting a straight fish!

Anyone willing to consider a day at PC Sunday after ORC, conditions permitting?  I've not fished PC and being 6 hours closer already has me seriously tempted to take Monday off...

Very nice pics and videos! Must have been a great day!!
Makes me jealous :)

The ocean looks so much different than on Tuesday, when I was on a boat in Depoe Bay (waves and wind were nasty)
