Get yerself a "Barbie" pole with a decent sized weight for your test rod.  They are cheap and don't take up lots of space.  Just leave it in the hull till needed.  Plus, when you get tired of swinging the bug wand, you can use it to fish with (they are easier to conceal so your bug friends won't see you using it)
