Something to do in November I suppose ...

-Allen

Quote
"OLYMPIA - Anglers will soon have an opportunity to catch lunker trout in Beaver Lake near Issaquah, thanks to the release of about 1,800 hatchery rainbows weighing between 3 to 5 pounds each.
The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) is scheduled to release the fish during the week of Nov. 3. The trout were part of an educational display at WDFW’s Issaquah Hatchery.
Beaver Lake is best fished by small boat, although anglers also can be successful fishing from shore, said Chad Jackson, inland fish biologist for WDFW.
The lake’s access site is most easily reached by way of East Beaver Lake Drive Southeast, off Southeast 24th Street in the city of Sammamish. Parking for vehicles and boat trailers is limited, and a valid WDFW vehicle access permit must be easily visible in or on vehicles parked at the access site. See http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/vup/ for more information about vehicle access permits.

Beaver Lake is one of several westside lowland lakes open to fishing year-round. Internal combustion boat engines are prohibited on the lake. All anglers 15 years of age and older are required to have a valid fishing license. The daily bag limit is five fish, and bait anglers must keep the first five trout they catch."

FYI: This lake isn't very large and the parking is quite limited on the boat launch side and near the actual park on the opposite side of the lake.  I have been there during this period just after the plant and it gets pretty busy.  Definitely be aware of your surroundings as the fly-fisherman form virtual blockades at times waving their bug wands not necessarily checking to see if anyone is behind them.

If you see a guy show up in his motorboat call the police- there is one jacka$$ that shows up every year around this time claiming he can be there so long as his motor is out of the water.  A 17' boat in a lake that size is like a cruise ship in Lake Washington; its crowded enough with all the float tubes, canoes, and kayaks.

I completely understand the frustration and crowded nature of having a 17' boat in a lake that small.  However to call the police to come hassle a guy that is technically following the rules (as long as he does not run the gas motor), is kind of wasting the police's time.  What do you expect the police to accomplish?   Have they been successful in ticketing this person or examples like this in the past?

Please don't get me wrong, I agree he may be acting a bit bullish by taking a cruise ship into a bathtub, but I also strongly feel that the police should be dealing with items that are more pressing like patrolling the streets and responding to emergencies.

If you read the regs regarding electric only lakes it clearly states that no gas motor is permitted to be attached to the boat.  I have argued with this assclown in the past about as have others I know who frequent this lake.

From the WDFW 2008 regs:
References in the Special Rules to "motors
prohibited" means that fishing from a floating
device equipped with a motor is prohibited.
"Internal combustion motors prohibited"
means that fishing from a floating device
equipped with an internal combustion motor is
prohibited. "Equipped with" means the motor
is attached to the floating device, regardless
of whether the motor is in the water.

Sammamish Police are about as busy as the ones in Mayberry.  I would have suggested calling a WDFW officer, but you would have a better chance catching a leprechaun or unicorn.  It might do some good if they (Police or WDFW) actually showed up at the park from time to time.

Fair enough.  I can't seem to access and/or understand the WDFW regs for some reason.  Thanks for the reference, as it does clearly say "mounted".

I'd suggest if the ding dong shows up this year, take some pics of his hull numbers, and show that he has a gasser mounted, maybe even his truck license plate.   Mail these to everyone in the WDFW, the police, and maybe a call too.

So very true Richard.

If this guy was in a small to mid-size jon boat I probably wouldn't take issue with it and leave him alone... glitter boats should stick to bigger waters.

Back to the original topic... If any of you would like to explore a new lake this one is pretty nice and diverse.  The north lake is accessible via a creek channel and provides a bit of solace if the main lake is getting too busy.  This lake doesn't get nearly as much pressure as the main one and contains quite a few holdovers.  I live less than 10 minutes away, so if anyone plans on heading up here I'd love to join you.
