Emergency Rule Updates and News.  Please note: These updates reflect changes to the Sportfishing Pamphlet. Rules found in the Sportfishing Pamphlet are in effect unless otherwise noted in the changes listed below.

Rule Changes > Saltwater Fishing > A particular Marine Area > Emergency rules currently in effect for Marine Area 09 (Admiralty Inlet)
Anglers can keep 2 hatchery chinook per day in Marine Area 9 beginning March 30

Good for the Pro's, but my luck with keepers lately makes this a non-event for me :angryfire:

So when are we organizing some kayak chinook harvesting in Area 9? I can't do it this weekend due to a shooting range work party on Saturday and Easter with the family on Sunday. I'm up for it other times, though. I still need to try out this new Gerber Controller fillet knife that I waited so long to get but haven't used yet.

This weekend the tides are tough.  Next weekend will be making a non-fishing run to the Depoe Bay/Lincoln City area just to be tourists and maybe try pole-poking for the illusive monkey faced eel.  The last weekend to fish the area (14-15) looks like a low tide about 10 ish which is a good time for a 8:30 launch and 4 hours of fishing.  For me, the 14th is possible but I'd tied up the 15th as well.   Go gettem!

I'll take you out if you want, as long as you're truely a newb. I won't been available until April 11th because of 10 days of work meetings, after that I'll fish the end of the A9 fishery at Pt No Pt then move to Pt Defiance until May when I'll return to 13. PM me.

Fish hard.

Me too but we'll be yaklessly taking a little vacation to Lincoln City, Depoe and the Yaquino Bay area where I hope to at least have time to pole poke for the illusive (for me) monkey faced eel on the inside fingers of the south side of the jetty.  I'm told we'll be on a whale watching tour out of Depoe and I'll have my radio with me hoping to hear of some action.  Looks like a sporty tide to go through the slot on Sunday so that might be interesting.

Good luck, last I've heard from locals I know is a bit more success toward low flat.

Thanks for the offer Workhard, I’ll have to take you up on that sometime.  I’m in the process of installing a Lowrance hook 2-5 and then I should be all set!  I fished possession bar via powerboat on Saturday and caught one shaker and two sub legals and they were biting throughout the day.  Definitely some fish out there.

How does that area look for yaks Chromer?  I've been eyeing the bait box area before closure if I get the time...

I think that it may be too far of a paddle even when launching off Whidbey Island but I have no experience in the salt so I might be wrong.

Here is the fishing map I tried to follow:

Smoke, I’d tend to agree with Chrome, it’s a pretty good hike. I’d really be watching the weather, wind and tides pretty carefully. Not that it couldn’t be done, just that even when it’s flat water out there, there’s potential. August and good weather could tempt me maybe, but April, Possesion and kayaks aren’t on my combo list.

The bait box on the south east end of Whidbey might work if you could launch from Whidbey, but I’d want to plan and do some forecast research pretty carefully.  Again, I’m sure it could be done, but the channels and traffic combined with tide water moving across possesion and quick wind potential are beyond me.

Yea the SE end, from one of the parks right there seemed close enough.  Good to know on the conditions there.

I was wondering about the currents/conditions in another area - columbia beach, taking the muk ferry across.  Seems fairly exposed as well but very reachable water.

I guess I haven’t considered Columbia Beach as part of “Possession”. I’ve passed it many times I n a PB but never stopped to fish as possession bar was always my target. I have heard of people fishing there but if you look at the volume of water east of Whidbey island, and see that it goes out through Deception Pass or by Columbia Beach, you have a good idea of the current flow. That said, it might be interesting during slack/slighter tides. Some research should offer some clues.
Just want to be clear my comments about possession bar are related to areas completely south of the island in the convergence zone of a lot of water coming down past Columbia Beach directly into a lot of water coming about 180 degrees from all of the lower Puget Sound. A moderate wind into a big tide can make for a not-so-fun paddle.
All good hunches and things for folks to consider in making a personal decision.
