I just saw the Voluntary Nogo Notice for the west coast of San Juan Island.  :( I also confirmed that boating means all boats, so kayaks will get big frowns.  >:( >:( I have camped and fished from this location (SJ County Park) for the past three years and now have to (or should anyway) change my plans for the end of July. Does anyone have ideas for a single kayak camp in the islands? I have seen older threads for Sucia. Let me know any suggestions for a 3 day solo trip and what the kayak in access is like. Or if you just want to reminisce about a favorite camp outing. I'm bummed about the NoGo in my favorite spot, but maybe I need to learn something new. Ideas?

Clark Island is a good spot.   Cypress Island also has kayak-in camping, Pelican Beach is one spot.   There is a county park on the north end of Guemes that shortens the travel distance to Cypress, just watch the rip that forms at the north end of Guemes.

now for my rant  "Voluntary No-Go"?  what a joke.  Kayaks or any other human powered craft don't disturb Orca's.  The state of Washington doesn't have authority to ban anyone from the waters in this area hence their attempt to intimidate.  If the State of WA had authority, they would have put in an official ban.  Only the Feds can restrict passage in the maritime.  If boaters allow themselves to be coerced,   they will lose not just now but in the future.  Go where you want, its the ocean.

"A venturesome minority will always be eager to get off on their own,
and no obstacle should be placed in their path;
let them take risk, for God sake, let them get lost, sun burnt, stranded, drowned,
eaten by bears, buried alive under avalanches -
that is the right and privilege of any free American."
