I am in the market for a new fishfinder, and I am taking a hard look at the Raymarine Dragonfly Pro series (likely the Dragonfly 5 Pro).

Any feedback/experiences that owners/users of these units might share would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

I have the dragonfly 4 pro and wish I had bought the 5" model. I can say that I really like the unit overall. It doesn't have some of the flashy features that some of the new lowrance models have (side scan and down scan imaging) but overall as a fish finder it works great. There's a few features I really wish the Dragonfly has and that is Voltage display so I know what the battery level is, and also there's no clock on the display either. Neither one of these are major issues, but for a kayaker who is running a smaller battery and potentially fishing time sensitive tournaments they're two "nice to have" features they could've easily added.

All this being said I would definitely buy one again, the product is well made and I've had probably 75 fishing days on this unit over the past two years and it's been absolutely bulletproof.

There's been a lot of past discussions on the subject. Use the search and you'll get a bunch of good info.

I'm following this thread.  Looking for a new FF also.

I currently have a Lowrance 4 Chirp with GPS -- really love it, great functionality, small, easy to mount with a very slick RAM bracket to a 1" ball.  I'm kind of bothered by how cumbersome all the physical mounting is for the 5" display type fish finders - they get really bulky and heavy, then there's no place to mount them that is sleek looking.

FWIW, I was on the fence between a Dragonfly 5 and a Lowrance Hook-5. I ended up option for the Hook-5 after a lot of back and forth and having just seen my buddy's Dragonfly 5, I don't regret it. That's not to say there was anything bad about the Dragonfly 5, it's a really nice unit, but I enjoy the options to put the time, battery voltage, etc as overlays on the Lowrance. Having come from an Elite 4 on my old yak, I was already aware of the menus/settings so it made my choice easier.

Do you have a photo of your Hook5 mounted on your kayak that you'd be willing to share?

I have a dragonfly 4 pro with down and side scan.  I love it.  I have good eyes, the smaller size doesn't bother me at all.  I can run all day for multiple days on a small 12v motorcycle type battery.  It's been on my yak when rolled around in the surf, pouring rain, and still functions well.

I have a Raymarine Dragonfly 4 Pro that I have used for 2 1/2 years when it went quitski. I contacted Raymarine and since it was past its 1 year warranty I was expecting a charge for fixing it. They said send it in and several weeks later I received a brand new unit no charge! I do wish it had at least a clock circuit but overall it has performed well and I like the horizontal format.
