LIFE IS GOOD

A woke this morning with high hopes-ocean was dropping and was very promising, the tuna boats were making their 2nd. day run and after their 1st. day run of being very successful(33 miles was the magic number). I new this was it, got to the launch site -no wind, no surf at all unless you want to count 2-3 inch big toe slappers. Made our way around the jetty and the fish finder pretty much went black with fish. started with small bait-like-fish and made it way to bigger fish. All the fish where 1-2 foot of the bottom to about 8 ft. up all in 26ft. of water. The wind started to come up(not a lot but just enough to keep your kayak moving) Cast, count down till it hit bottom them a quick 2 strip pull and peck, peck, peck nothing for a few seconds and then the fly line would got heavy and then rod would doubled over and the action kick in. They would bulldog you at first with some massive head shakes and then make two or three serious runs and then go back the bulldog thing. They where not going to lay over and come easy. They fought hard all the way to the end and still they fought like there was no tomorrow (tomorrow for them was going to be fish tacos ) Needless to say the action ended just as fast as it started- not because they got tight lipped or they turned off the bite but because we limited out in 1hour and 15 minutes. Wow we still can get back to shore , load everything up and go and grab a burger before the lunch crowd shows up. Thinking maybe I should try it tomorrow again LIFE IS GOOD somewhere along the Southern Oregon coast.

Interesting fly there, Mr. 12foot.  Pretty beat up, but still lots of sparkle...  One of these days I need to learn to tie in more glittery stuff and then maybe I, too, could catch fat - look at how fat those fish are! - fish like those.

Those are really chunky fish!  That one on the top looks like a volleyball, for Pete's sake.

If you go again tomorrow, good fishing (again).  Sadly, I'll be on an expedition to the Wilds of Lebanon to pick up a puppy.  Stupid puppy, getting in the way of great fishing...
