2019 Outback hull vs PA12, Revo13, 2018 Outback

RogerDodger, that's an interesting photographic comparison of the kayaks.  Although the 2019 Outback is 8 inches longer than the 2018 Outback, it looks like the waterline of the 2019 Outback is actually a bit shorter than the waterline of the 2018 Outback.  So the extra length may not improve the speed of the 2019 Outback, particularly since the 2019 Outback is also wider than the 2018 Outback.  But other aspects of the hull design may make the 2019 Outback faster than the 2018 Outback.  I look forward to reports from users.

I'm also curious how the 2019 Outback rudder performs in comparison to the standard and sailing rudder on the 2018 and prior year Outbacks.

I would love to test out the 2019 and see them side by side.  I bought a 2018 two days before this was announced.    I don't mind the hull slap.  But I also don't fish ponds for bass and trout.  I am pretty sure that the lingcod 40 to 80 feet below me don't notice.  Interesting observation on the waterline.  I wish Hobie would post up their hydrostatics for various models. (ie. http://www.oneoceankayaks.com/smhydro/hydro.htm )   It would make my decision on whether or not to sell the 2018 easier.  It still has not touched the water and I do not intend to let it until I decide. Or someone can offer me $2300 for a new 2018 Camo Outback and that will make it easier. MSRP $2749).

Bummer.  In the days before a natural disaster like an earthquake, flood, wildfire, or hurricane hits, some people will close the sale of their house, and other people will close the purchase of a house.  The people who closed the sale of their house have a great story about how their former house was destroyed the day after they unloaded it.  The people who bought a house a day or so before it was destroyed also have a great story, but not a story with a happy ending.  Craig, unfortunately, is in the second category.  Good luck unloading the 2018 Outback, Craig!

Minor correction from one of the comments above (unless I misunderstood): The 2018 Revo 13 does have the transducer plate and through-hull wiring stubs (left and right).

but does it have the new Guardian Retractable Transducer Shield that comes on the Outback?  this fits longer transducers like the Lowrance TripleShot and drops the transducer down a bit to improve side scanning...I am assuming as each of the Hobie hulls is updated, they will move to this, according to the Hobie website, the Revo13 doesn't have it yet.  cheers, roger

The 2018 Revolution does not have it.  I have a 2018 and it has a slightly upgraded Lowrance ready mount vs. my older 2014.  It is not something that would cause me to upgrade, or care to upgrade.  The FF I have already uses up the battery too fast.  I can't imagine what sidescan  would do.  Plus then I would be even more pissed knowing there are fish just out of reach that don't want what I am offering.

Ah - I did misunderstand. Yes, as Craig already explained the 2018 does not have that feature.
