Planning tomorrow for Springers and torn between Selwood and upstream of the Lewis. Did 4 hours in the Harbor/head of the channel Sunday. 100+ boats 1 keeper. ODFW dude was at Selwood the day before and checked 8.

Any news from the Columbia?
Anyone heading out tomorrow?

I was out at Willamette Park boat launch two Saturdays ago and saw three come in, all caught right under Sellwood super early in the morning. Nothing else that day. Went out last Sunday afternoon for 6 hours (Sellwood again), got a few bumps, caught nothing and no other boats caught anything. My buddy got a good takedown there on Monday. So far the only places I've heard of people catching were Multnomah Channel (early last Sunday) and Sellwood (seemingly more consistent so far). I'd be getting back out this weekend but the lady just got her wisdom tooth pulled so I gotta take care of her.
Good luck though, let us know how it goes.
Tight lines!

Bob, I am surprised you aren't giving Sellwood area a try. I was out there yesterday and saw one caught in the exact same spot you bagged that gorgeous 20 pounder last year. Everyone else was out closer to the channel getting nothing.
For myself, I am having a much more subdued season than last year, but have netted a couple at Sellwood. Seems like my hooks are a little slippery, and there are a lot of unclipped fish out there, but I did eat grilled butter with scales last night and it was worth the hard efforts.
Good luck, and I would love to hear your Columbia report.

The reason you don't hear much of kayakers doing well for springers on the Columbia is because what works well for springers on the big river isn't all that easy for kayakers, generally speaking.
My advice for your question is the same thing I tell everyone about where to fish for spring samlon: pick a spot that's easy for you to get to. Go there, and nowhere else, as often as you can. It helps if the spot you pick has at least some people, but not too many, who fish there on a regular basis. They can provide info you can use, whether you talk to them or not, such as, where they caught it and what what they were using.
Something that I've noticed that people who catch a lot of Springers all have in common is they typically fish the same area over and over and over again, regardless of what reports on the internet say. Take Minnowmagnet up on his suggestion of spending time at Sellwood - it's very good.

Rawkfish's advice here is really "spot on."  I could not agree more with what he said, especially for these early weeks of springer fishing on the Willamette. Don't imitate people who just put their rods in the holder and drive around (until later).
