As much as I want to get the kayak out, I am going to leave the yak at home this week. My friend has offered to take me out on his Northriver, and with a somewhat sketchy forecast, I am just going to be happy and put some fish in the freezer. Best of luck to everyone on the big blue!

If I wasn’t ass to elbow deep in organizing a shop after moving 3 full size storage units into it . I would geared up and took a look for the green light. Likely another two weeks before I’m close to ready to fish.
Good call drifter and good luck.

I was there Monday. One Kayaker went out at 7am and was back by 9ish with a limit of Rock Fish. Gave up on Lings cuz it was getting a bit bumpy. Not on the forum but suggested he should. Has been out of PC a dozen of times or so.

Forecast is good enough for me to take a day off from work and give Depoe a whirl tomorrow.  The color line I observed driving from Waldport to Florence today was EPIC: aquamarine water near shore saddling up against a giant mass of brown water.  Helluva plankton bloom. I hope something similar shows up at Depoe tomorrow!

Ran into Dampainter on the highway overlooking the Hole this morning. Seas were good, maybe 3 footers rolling through on a short period. Not flat, but plenty fine for fishing. I put my salmon gear in the water a bit after 0700, and found a great color line at about the 130 foot contour that moved east to the 70 foot contour over the next two hours. Water inside the line was around 48 degrees, while the water west of the line was 49.5. Even marked a few bait balls in the 40-50 foot depth range. All the ingredients seemed to be there, but I couldn't buy a salmon bite today.

I stowed the salmon gear around 0930 and busted out my lingcod gear. The black rockfish were super chompy, and kept eating my big lingcod baits, so I slayed a few of them for their insolence  ;D.  When I could get away from the blacks, the lingcod were happy to play. After losing what felt like a really big one, I bonked a blue 34 incher. Waded through a few small ones after that, until about 1130, when I hooked into another heavy fish. I don't usually get good battles out of big lings, but this one was a champ: several big runs, and even got me into the bottom at one point.  I love putting a monster bendo in the Ugly Stik Tiger! Thanks for being the photographer Painter!

The black rockfish were full of crab larvae.  Lingcod just had some old fish pieces in their stomachs. No squid, which is a little surprising considering that the squid boats have been working just offshore for the last few weeks.

Thanks for the report, Clayman! If I don't get out soon I'm going to sell all my fishing gear, join a monastery, and commit to a life of fishing celibacy :(  :angry2:  :sad2:
