2009 is almost here and yak fishing may be on my 1/1 - 1/4 schedule. I won't have access to the internet from 12/30/08 thru 01/04/09, so can I sign up for the 2009 AOTY right now?

Before signing up though, I'm wondering, has the species list been finalized? Were panfish dropped? If so, I may consider saving the 40 bucks for something else. I like the little (sometimes not so little) buggers, and a significant amount of my fishing time is spent targeting them.

Are ocean perch going to be in the panfish category? What about Greenling?

Panfish are still in and I'll check on surf perch with polepole and Zee.  Personally I don't see why not as long as you catch them from a kayak and not from shore.

As for sign up, it takes a little while to make the switch over from the 2008 to the 2009 AOTY website because I have to let people enter last minute fish.   (As a reminder you have until 11:59 pm on New Year's Eve to enter those hail Mary fish.)

I'm going to be taking over the handling of the AOTY entry fees from Polepole and I still need to figure out how to set up a paypal "pay now" button.

Given those two minor issues, you will have some leeway with early January fish.  That is to say, fish caught in the first week of Jan (Jan 1st - Jan 6th) will count even if you haven't paid yet.

I should have the new rules (fish/points/etc..) posted before the end of the year I just have a couple minor things to finalize first.

Count me in for AOTY 2009.  Don't worry about me fishing too hard, but I do plan to have some fun.

Brian,
Thanks for the 2009 AOTY info, and thanks for lobbying for panfish and walleye!   :icon_salut:

I'll look for the 2009 entry details when I log back in on the 5th.

Happy new year!

BSteves - Paypal has a page on their website to help you put the "Buy Now" button to AOTY page.

I noticed surfperch is in. That will be cool to try to target those.

What about seaperch? the ones that hang around pilings and rocks

Roy,

Surfperch includes pile perch and rubber lips and I think those are the intended targets from a kayak.  Fishing for barred surfperch in the surf from a kayak might be a bit too interesting.

cool, Surf perch would be a bit too interesting, i agree. So far i haven't heard about rubberlips up here, we used to catch them in Cali as big as the blacks up here.
