Yeah, the weather outside is frightful, but y'all are Great Pacific North Westerners and made of sterner stuff!  Anybody wanna walk the dinosaur (boring sturgeon fishing)? But I'm up for fishing for anything.

I'm blowing through town tomorrow evening through 1/4/09 and I've got my sister outside chipping the ice off my kayak (hope it does not shatter :o ). I'm sure I can muster a day pass or two. Worst case scenario, we could have a beer or two and tell some lies (In the south we call that a happy hour) Anybody Up?

I still have most of my yaks in Seattle as I haven't made the big move yet.  So I'll be good to go.

Excellent!

Weather looks downright tolerable Sat. (assuming that front moves through on schedule). Now we just need some local intel. Saw an ifish report that downtown PDX might be fishy.  Bsteves et al ?  What say y'all?

Wali,

I'm also up for joining next Saturday (unless my wife plans something else for me).

Was planning on Coos Bay for that date, but will see if I can change plans. Where? If it's a dino shuffle, I'm gonna need a longer anchor rope.

Sturgeon has slowed down a little since the cold weather hit but there's still some catching going on.

Clackamas/Willamette steelhead is an option also.

Why not merge this get together with our monthly event? Any intel on something N. of the border? Cowlitz?

If the venue isn't too dangerous, I'll throw the boys in their wetsuits and make them fish for their allowances.   >:D

Wali,

I think you're going to be blown off most of the rivers around here.  Spot posted a hydrograph for the Cowlitz the other day and remarked how dangerous it would be at 18 ft.  With all this snow melt, it's predicted to crest at just under 23 feet on Friday night (Flood Stage at this location is 21.5 ft.)

The Willamette is still well below flooding, but it's much, much higher than say when everyone went sturgeon fishing at the beginning of December.

If you can figure out something resonable to do I'll still try to be there, even if that's just sitting around telling lies and drinking beers.

The thought of fishing this weekend had crossed my mind also, but as bsteves said, water conditions could be an issue.  Might just have to wait and see

Be safe guys... drove over the Willy today and it looked like anchoring a yak might be a little dicey at these flows.  I'd suggest hitting a trout lake somewhere in the Valley, or up in WA.  That, or sharing a pitcher of Free Range Red at the Laurelwood in PDX.
