anyone planning on depoe bay this week anytime? other than me?

I'm hoping to get out Tuesday and/or Wednesday.  I haven't decided between PC or Depoe.  On Tuesday, the swells keep getting bigger and the period shorter, so we will have to see in a couple days where it ends up.

We've got reservations for Bastendorff County campground June 4-6. Might try to get there on Monday morning for the -1.7 tide. If the weather won't allow for a safe launch, I'll stay ashore for some clamming & poke-poling.

A little late to reply but I am going to drive down to PC really quick here and see what it looks like at daylight. Good chance I will be unloading and fishing! going to try and do the same tomorrow.

Depoe fished okay. Lingcod were nowhere near as chompy as they were a month ago, at least for me anyway. I think a lot of that had to do with the super slow south-to-north current and 15+ feet of visibility. I find the bite to be much better when the current is a bit more brisk and running from north to south. That being said, the rockfish seemed to bite fairly well, as I watched Nobaddays whack rockfish on his 8-weight. Pretty cool!

I landed around seven or eight lingcod, but I worked for em. Harvested 29 and 31 inchers, along with some blacks. I had salmon gear with me, but the conditions looked bleak for salmon, so I didn't bother busting it out. The OSP trooper at the ramp said he talked to one boat that tried for salmon and had one takedown, but I don't know where they were fishing.

Wind was never a factor, swell was small. Glad to get out there before the wind machine picks up for the foreseeable future. I think my favorite part of the day was getting to play with my new Dutch from Predator action figure  ;D.

PC seemed to be pretty slow fishing with a pretty fast north current. Swells were 4@9 with the wind chop being a little more than I liked around 2@4.

A lot of the dory guys were crowding the same 20 foot drift because one guy caught a black there. It was pretty funny to watch actually! I had to work hard for 2 1/2 hours for 4 blacks and one nice Kelp Greenling.
Didn't end up getting any keeper lings, Did release 3 sub 15 inchers.

You guys can't say you're going and then not give a report. ;D

I fished Depoe Bay Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.  Pretty easy limits on rockfish with the fly, but using gear was a little slow.  I had to work a bit for lingcod, but threw back keeper sized ones each day.  Nothing big on the lings.  My legal lings were 24-26.  I did get this years first keeper ling on a fly today and got to upgrade my fly caught rockfish for AOTY.

I took a friend out for his maiden voyage in the salt, using his new Hobie.

short period swells turn the Sunset Bay/Simpson Reef area into a big old washing machine so Pepper and I stuck with CoosBay Wednesday and it kicked out a strong 27" ling on my first pass down the submerged reef.   5 good sized crab but I couldn't find any rockfish schools.

the N. wind was picking up and just starting to organize some whitecaps when we crossed the bay which allowed us to crash some tasty waves in the Outback with the pots on the bow...we took probably 10 little sets like that, making about 3.5mph into the outgoing tide and wind, the water coming over the bow just drained out the mirage drive well as expected and the drive pedals keep the pots from sliding back, all I needed to do was take the waves fairly head on to keep the pots from sliding off the side, fun day.

Pepper still isn't keen on Lingcod but she does approve of the new chicken strips and waffles at DQ.   ;D

Nice lingcod, Roger!  How does Pepper like bumpy days like Wednesday?
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Nice work (and with your fly rod, to boot)!

Would you mind showing the fly you used for your lingcod?  I'm mostly interested in how long it is/was because I wonder if I really need to use 9-inch flies.   ;D

she has no issues.  a big reason why our kayak fishing partnership works is that she has figured out when it's important to stay down on the rear deck, like when I am taking things seriously or I move forward to my knees to land a fish or pull a crab pot.  At first I would command her down but she now she just anticipates when it's important.  But once things are relaxed, she is a cocky goof off on the back, this clip is from just after we got out of the main channel and through those sets of mini-whitecaps, once I relax here, she gets cocky and goes so far as to step up higher on one side of the seat...

I'm on the road right now, so I don't have a picture of the actual fly, but it was similar to these, except green on top.  It was probably 4" long.  I was actually targeting rockfish when I caught the ling.  These are tied with EP fibers.  They have consistently been working pretty well.
