Ok, Sunday it is. How about 8:30 AM at the Lake Goodwin (Wenberg State Park) boat ramp?

The driving directions from I-5 are:
Take exit #206 (Smokey Point), and drive west 2.4 miles to a stop sign. Turn right, and drive 2.7 miles. Turn left on E. Lake Goodwin Rd., and travel 1.6 miles. Park entrance is on right.

BTW, a Natural Investment Permit is required for watercraft launching at Wenberg State Park. Daily permits can be purchased for $7.00 at the ramp. $70.00 annual permits can be purchased online - https://fortress.wa.gov/parks/ecomm/nip/nipstp0.asp

Alternatively, at the N end of the lake there's a small county park that might work for launching yaks. I'll check it out today, and post my findings tonight.

I'll PM my cell # to each of you just in case there's a need to get in touch while I'm offline (out on the lake).

Well, time to get my @ss out of this chair and get out there. See ya tomorrow!

PS, Tomorrow I'm planning to grill up some burgers for lunch, so please let me know if any of you decide not to go. Anyone else deciding to join us, let me know that too. I'll check the thread before leaving tomorrow morning.

PS2,If you're joining us, but don't want a burger cuz you're a vegetarian....sounds like a personal problem...bring celery...   ;D

This morning I checked out the county park, and decided to save 7 bucks and launch there instead of at the state park. Shoulda spent the 7 bucks... After launching I paddled around the N end for a couple of hours looking for deep water. There wasn't any... The north half of the lake is a large shallow flat.

Reluctantly, I paddled south and started finding depths of 40 to 50+ feet. A few boats were in the south end trolling for trout. I tried a drop shot rig in the deeper holes I was finding, but without results. Deciding to switch to a jig, I attempted to reach my jig box which was cleverly stored behind me in a milk crate... My twisting and contorting very nearly resulted in a huli. It was so close that my tackle box, convinced that a huli was imminent, jumped out of the kayak to escape. I gave up on the jig box and stuck with the drop shot rig. To make a long story short...no fish, no bites.

Hopefully this report won't discourage those planning to join me tomorrow. One of us is bound to hit on something that works.

Yeah, me too, Z, but it's a long way from the shallow end to the deep end...

I'm planning to launch from the state park tomorrow, but I'll do whatever the rest of you want to do. I'll keep an eye on this thread for the rest of the evening.

From what I know of Lk. Goodwin NY is right, the best drop-offs and deep areas are on the south end of the lake. Those will be the area I'll be spending most of my time at as well. From Google maps it looks like from north to south the lake is about 2 miles long. Lately I've been into getting a workout paddling/pedaling as well as fishing so I think I'll be parking at the north end and pedaling on down. Then again that's now... we'll see how energetic I feel @ 8AM..  ;D

See y'all at about 8:30!

So that everyone knows where we're meeting tomorrow, let's do the 8:30 meet & greet at the state park 1st. Depending on how my arms feel in the morning, I may launch at the county park too.

Well I started the drive from west seattle at about 7:00 am...it was cold...about 31 when I left the house...on the way I am thinking this is not going to be much fun because it is ridiculously foggy and cold....There's flares on the highway for some reason...I get to the lake around 8:30 and the sun is seeming to poke out but it is still cold... Noggin Yakker is in the parking lot...We meet and greet and then proceed to pay our ramp fees for the day...we debate on when and if anybody is gonna show up...Noggin Yakker mentions a dark colored small suv with a roof rack at the north end of the lake...and we both agree it is probably zees rig...Yarjammer calls and anounces he will be a little late...We drive to the ramp and start unloading...The park ranger pulls up and tells about the out of order bathrooms then Noggin Yakker asks him about the grills for cooking lunch...The park ranger asks if we paid our launch fee and we respond yes...He says oh you guys are just launching kayaks so you don't need to pay it...Then he goes and gets our money out of the drop box and returns...I was pretty amazed...Yarjammer shows up around this time and we see zee paddling/pedaling up the lake. So we set out on the lake and paddle over to zee and see whats up. Hes in about 40 ft of water so we fish there for a few minutes.  Noggin Yakker tells me about a deeper hole up the lake a little bit so we head up the lake to the hole.
We both drop our lines and start fishing. Zee and Yarjammer stay back at there hole.  An hour or less goes by and I am not really paying much attention...the line is slack but i feel a tug.  I start reeling and its pulling drag.  We are in about 50 feet of water.  I think he is almost to the top and he pulls some more drag. Finally I get him where I can see him...Its a trout...a big one.  I get it in the net but the 3 hook drop shot I am using gets all tangled up so we decide to throw him on a stringer because we will keep him after the big ordeal.  Get all rigged back up but it is almost lunch time and Noggin Yakkers wife is calling to tell us she has the hamburgers and is almost there. So we pack up and go in for a good hamburger lunch. We checked the fish after lunch and measured him. He seemed to be going strong and was not bleeding at all so we decided to release him...He swam off strong so I guess he is ok. After an hour or so we go back out...This time Everybody comes to the hole me and Noggin Yakker were at.  We all put our lures in the water and after about 20 min I think I have a bite...but it was the bottom...i paddle to a bit deeper water and about 20 mins later i get a nibble then a bite...I pull it up and it is a slightly smaller trout guessing maybe 16-17 inches.  At about 4:00 we decide that we have all had enough and head back to the ramp...Thanks to Noggin Yakker for lending me waders/hat/rod  because I would have been really cold without them and my rod would have been way to heavy for that kind of fishing. Also special thanks to Noggin Yakkers wife for bringing the food.

It ended up being a nice day that warmed up good by midday

I look forward to doing that again
