Hello All,

I have been lurking for a month or two and have been about to introduce myself for as long (not enough minutes in the day!!!!). I was thrilled to stumble onto the site as I have been looking for kindred crazies* since I came up from that state just south of here 5 years ago (I live in Portland). Lots of kayakers, lots of fishermen, and almost no kayak fishermen.
I've been fishing from a yak almost exclusively since 95 and have a similar story to Will's. (Will: Did you ever go fishing with the guy with the beard in Ventura? (Spike)   ;D  )   Like Will, it took me a year or three to haul in a salmon and none yet from my boat. Its a very different fishery. I used to think "freshwater fishermen catch bait", yeah right (wrong!)  ::) and I thought I was a manly man because I can launch (and land) in 6' breaking surf. Then I came up here and the Clack, Willamette, and Columbia handed me my lunch.  :o They all have this moving water thing (current) and its cold! Lessons learned?  Dress right and take a swift water class.

Then the cable guy showed me a home video of him with an 18 lbs and 25 lbs Springers that he caught the day before from the bank 40 minutes from my front door. Then he was releasing this 6' prehistoric beastie form hell from the same place (Sauvie Island). In L.A. it took 30 minutes to cross the street and although I caught a lot of good fish, Rock Bass don't pass the 5 lbs mark too often. Did I mention that this is a different fishery? I think I'm in heaven!

I spent the last year in New Orleans cleaning up (I'm more or less from there too). Hard work, but I was in hog HEAVEN fishing. Warm air, water, and no Current(!!!!) and the fishing was phenomenal. 8) Katrina did not hurt the fishing at all. I found yall while stumbling around the  kfs Cajun country boards and I'm tickled that I did.

I've collected a few boats over the years (Cobra XL, Sevylor SVX 200, and a Heritage Fisherman 14) Dang things seem to multiply when your not looking. This year Santa's bringing an NRS dry suit and KFS may be sending a Hobie Adventure (that's assuming I send them lots of money) that should be interesting in current. So if your in the neighborhood holler at me and I'll be glad to go out with you and show you everything I don't know about this fishery.

tight lines,
Wali

*"Crazy" describes the looks I get while fishing and at boat launches. Actually, I think yak fishing is the sanest form of this fishing insanity. ;D

Fishes, how ya'll are!?
Good to see some of the southern folks here.
Dated a girl from the Calceseau (?) Parish in La. Her dad owned a fish market on the river there, never ate or will eat again so many crawfish! MMMMMMMM!
Noodled some catfish in lake Conroe and others but not fond of the snakes down south.
The fish are cleaner and cold water makes em much tastier up here, IMO.
Keep throwin a line out here and you will allways catch some knowledge!

Welcome Fishesfromtupperware!!! First thing we'll have to do is come up with a shorter nickname for you.   ;)

Nice to see more people from Oregon coming out of the woodwork.  And from Idaho too.  You know ... I thought that this time of year, the board might slow down a bit.  But I guess not many of us are getting out on our yaks so might as well at least talk about it.  The board is up to 90 people now.  All I can say is WOW!  I wonder if we can break 100 before the new year.  Come on you lurkers, sign up and give us a shout out.

"Wali"  is just fine.    fishesfromtupperware aptly describes what I fish in and sounds better than fishesfromcloroxbottles :D

Its the handle I use on ifish.net (excellent northwest fishing forum if yall have not stumbled on to it). On the kfs boards and pretty much everywhere else, I'm Waljojo (a name a friend imposed on me). But me dear sainted mum called me "Wali". Dad used it too, but usually preceded by an expletive.   ;D

Hey Wali!

"Fishesfromtupperware"!!  :D  Kinda long, but it's still probably the funniest handle I've seen on here so far.  Good one.  ;D
