this post is to publicly thank the coast guard out of depoe bay. To petty officer 2 hart - who`s decision it was to send the life boat out for me, petty officer 2 smith, to petty officer 3 leguillon, to petty officer schlemeyer the crew of the life boat. a deep sincere THANK YOU!!. just came home late last nite from a multi day kayak fishing trip from depoe bay. on my arrival last wednesday, bar was open,(they changed it to restricted after my rescue) i launched at 1215. i fished for approx. 2 hours ( fishing was good with limits each day). on way back coasties called me on radio just before i was going to announce my inbound. they asked me not to come in and that they were sending a lifeboat out to assist me. then was asked me to make way out to first chanel bouy which i did. lifeboat said that they would have me come aboard as the bar was nasty (I could see that as we came across bar, and before as the whole bay was a mess by then.) after loading my stuff, me and kayak onboard we came inbound. am not sure i would have made the bar crossing if i had tried it. if not could have been really bad with the slop that was going on there. other than some pizza`s for the station and a couple public thank you`s am not sure what else i can do. you all have my deepest respect/admiration. thank you coast guard depoe bay for all that u do.

Glad that worked out.
It sounded like they were jumping on as well on Friday.
I heard at least 3 calls for vessels under tow from the DB CG.
Going to cost some folks more than pocket change.
I love to fish PC, but having the CG at your back makes DB my favorite.

Since when did the Coast Guard start charging?
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

If you get towed in the CG is going through your boat with a fine toothed comb.
Anything not right, expired flares, wrong life preservers for the number of people on the boat.
The school of thought is if you went out and needed to be rescued, you weren't ready to go out.

I know in dp’s case he couldn’t have been sited, he has all his safety gear  ;) glad you don’t catch the wave of a lifetime cuz them rocks look like they’ll hurt like “purgatory” if you strike them on the return.

Glad they were looking out for you.  Even on days when they're not saving your butt, the CG rocks!  I used to send them flats of muffins and pizzas to show our appreciation when I was putting on the ORC.

Thanks dampainter for sharing this. I spoke to you the day after at the ramp. I was planning on going out of Depoe the same day, so I would have been right there beside you. The forecast looked okay to me, a little on the high side but definitely doable. But I ended up having to do some work. Mind explaining what you think happened? Was it just the wind coming up? Maybe from a bad direction? I remember you saying something about the tide being low. I think that would be useful to other newbies like myself.

How did you guys end up doing the day I saw you? I started to sort through smaller legal ling, but gave up and kept two (~24,~27) when the sun started getting hot (forgot sunscreen). I went further out and got my limit of rockfish and headed in before I turned too tomatoey.

In the way of a fishing report for the board this was 03/19/2020. Ling were thick around 35-40 fow. Probably sorted through around 15 ling, but I didn't get anything huge. Rockfish (all black) were in around 55-60 fow.

Thanks again for the tips and lure dampainter!
