While doing a bit of research (read daydreaming) about pacific halibut the other day I ran across this video. Had to share it with the group.

At 5:30 in the video the ling extravaganza begins. I guess this must be a spawning aggregation, but holy hell I never dreamed there could be so many ling on one rock. They are literally stacked like cord wood in places. Also I love the little china rockfish chasing the laser at 6:28, like a sea cat. Neat to see what is going on underwater on a PNW reef.

It was the same 3 lingcod, they just kept going past the camera 5,283 times!

Video said the two red dots were 20cm apart. That meant those weren’t baby lingcod either.

Very cool.  Interesting how they seem to congregate by similar size.  I have seen the same with other schooling fish, and i guess i never thought of lings as schooling fish!
