he was turning around to reach something behind him. Something i would think is probably one of the most common reasons.... he was able to self recue himself fast, pretty good for an old man...

That definitely is the most common reason for hulis that I've heard of.  If I need to turn my head to see what I'm doing behind me, then I just go side saddle and avoid the problem.
