For those who keep track of fishing milestones regarding migratory salmonids, Bill Monroe of the Oregonian recently reported that the first springer of the year on the Willamette was caught on Saturday (Jan 31st) by a steelhead fisherman in Oregon City.  It won't be long now.

At least the first one he knows about ::). Nothing to really get excited about for about 3 weeks to a month. The salmon show up in a bell shaped curve, that starts about 2 weeks ago and runs till the end of june (at least for the OC area).  Prime time is generally "april ish"

I don't care I'm jonesin for salmon so bad after missing most of the fall run. i start trolling off sauvie island this coming weekend. I've scouted everything and every launch from chinook landing to warrior rock and it's time to get it on!

Don't waste yer time.  You can't catch springers out of a kayak.
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

Yep, I agree with Spot. You really can't catch springers from a kayak. That's MY job.  :D :D :D :D :D

In reality, I'll be the only one catching anything from a "real" kayak. You kids have fun with your pool toys. Don't forget your rudders, pedals, and sails!

Jay, do you generally have Monday's off?  I'll have to factor that in next time I have an urge to take a spare day off mid-week to go fishing.

I'm tempted to do this next week, but I have a lot on my plate right now  (i.e. I need to stop procrastinating on NWKA today).

Yep, I work Tues-Sat with Sun/Mon off. This really sucks with the new sturgeon retention rules (not to mention AOTY requiring legal retention for points  :ky:)

It looks like Mondays will be my regular fishing days for quite a while.

Nanook...what is that from Mork and Mindy?....man you guys are old ;D you guys are to me what power boaters are to you. :o

I'm off Sundays & Mondays...if anyone ever wants to see what fishing from a "kayak" looks like.

If I can get the mid terms done by sunday, I'll be fishing down by warrior rock @ sauvie island for springers on Monday.

Where are you thinking? I can possibly do Portland metro area Monday. It's all contingent on me getting school work done on Sunday (50/50 chance)
