I have just recently taken up fishing again after a 30 year hiatus.  I also have happened to recently take up kayaking.  Learning that these two have been combined into a growing sport has sent me down a rabbit hole of gear, research, and fun.  I feel like I am finally getting the hang of the combo of the two activities.  As my skills and experience increase two future challenges I look forward to are:
-Offshore fishing
-Sturgeon fishing

When that time comes (it is still a ways off), I also look forward to turning to this community for guidance, direction and support.

Curious what kayak you bought.  I plan to soon exchange my 7 year old Trident 4.3 for either a new Trident 13 or Hobie Revolution 13.  Need to take a Hobie out for a test run.  Must say sitting in a kayak with no paddle in my hand does feel strange but I suppose I could get used to it.

Welcome to the NWKA forum Oldhammer.  This is a great place to learn and it seems your search has led you here.  The forum's search feature can lead to a ton of how to and safety information.  I too am still a ways off from the offshore fishing goal (location, location).

Portability and versatility were my highest priorities for my first purchase.  I went with the Sea Eagle Explorer 380.  A 12 foot inflatable.  I'd been super happy with the pontoon boat I bought from them.  I already have Hobie Envy though and am already dreaming of my upgrade.  But for now rigging an inflatable gives me plenty to do.  At some point I plan to spend more time fishing than tinkering!

I enjoy my "tinkering" because of the anticipation of fishing.  I think the tinkering/preparation is half the fun. :)
