Nanny state needs to nanny I guess. Nonsense like this comes with a territory of living in a blue state.
I have lived in Red states as much as Blue. The red states just nanny you on other things and restrict your freedoms in other more fundamental ways.

More truth:  There is no such thing as a red or a blue state.  EVERY state is shades of purple.

In the literal sense of individual voters, yeah. Even more true if we lived in a true democracy not a representative one.

I was thinking more along the lines of counties and voting precincts. Maps at that level of detail show a vastly different picture than just the useless red/blue divide.  We’re a lot more purple than most folks think.
